I had to reinstall Vista from scratch and for some reason my C: drive became my J: drive. I am unable to change it back under normal means. does anyone know a way of changing it vback to C: without losing my data or having to fdisk it?
when you did the reinstall, did you have a USB drive or flashcard reader connected? Did you have any other hard drive connected?
the way to install is to disconnect all usb connections from the motherboard and have only the DVD drive and hard drive connected
that way you get C:\ as your main drive
sometimes windows sees the USB hookup and assigns a drive letter to it during the windows install
your best bet is to zero the drive (format is not good enough). You need to zero the drive so the MBR is wiped. then install the OS
the links above may create their own issues due to the registry seeing the boot drive as J:\
