is there any way to bypass a dongle?

A dongle is usually needed to run a specific program. It is a device to prevent copying/piracy of proprietary progams. The program will not run without it.

You can detach the dongle when the program it came with is not needed but it will have to be re-attached and the computer usually rebooted to run the program.

What can a person do if they lose the dongle from their program. I have Quark Express and lost my dongle when I moved to a new apartment. What should I do. WIll the company sell me another one? Should I expect to pay full price (the cost of the software)? That would really stink.

Thanks,
Melissa

Give them a call and explain your problem. Dongles are dirt cheap. It's the software that costs. If they appreciate your custom they should replace it free. Dongles are prone to being lost, breaking, and being stolen. You won't be their first customer with a problem.

All depends on the company - Autodesk used a dongle with some of their autocad programs, and the manuals said "insure it, we don't replace it - the only way you are getting a new one is to buy the software again"

there is a company who will write an emulator to run as a dongle, you need to show them that you own the program
then they will write you the code for it
