Text marked "Do not check spelling or grammar" as skipped.

I have checked under tools, language, set language. The Do not check spelling or grammar is not checked.

I have checked under tools, language, set language.

Before you did that, did you first select the entire document? You can use Ctrl+A to do that.

Also, go to Tools-Options, Sp & Grammar and hit Recheck document if it's available. That clears any spelling errors that may have been marked as ignored during previous spellchecks.

Are you saying that specific] text - " "Do not check spelling or grammar" is skipped?

What exactly is being skipped?

Sorry, I had forgotten to put the complete statement of my problem.

I have a document created from a template. when I run the spell check, I get this message.

The complete message I am getting is
Text marked "Do not check spelling or grammar" as skipped.

I do not get the message when I open the document and spell check it on other machines.

I can't find any options that were changed. I have gone into Tools Options and told it to recheck the document.

It could be in your header or footer; it could also be in a hidden header or footer. Maybe. I would have to see the file to be sure. If you'd like to send... anne@vbaexpress.com

Hiya, Judy.
Got your doc.
When I hit Ctrl+A and then go to Tools-Language-Set language, there's a *grayed* checkmark in the "do not check". That means that SOMEWHERE in your document is an area that's assigned not to be checked.

How to find it?

Edit-Find and hit More, then Format-language...
You'll see that it's actually just your field that contains the file name that's set to no proofing.

Ah, yes, I do see that but why do some people get the message and others it just runs the spell check and skips this text?

Sorry. I can't tell. I get the same message in both 2000 and 2002.

Do this for me tho, would you?
File-Page setup, Layout tab.
Change to different odd and even.
Go to the bottom of the first page and hit Ctrl+Enter to insert a page break. Now go to the bottom of that new page. You've got an errant even page footer there that just says "footer". You might want to get rid of that...

Thanks. Good sleuthing on your part. I will get that footer out of there.

Thanks for all your help.
