Hello all, thought I would ask your opinions on upcoming training. We are preparing for our conversion from a 4 cabinet Rolm 9751 to a CS1000E Release 5.5.

Two of our remote sites have already cut with MG1000E(s) with WANs back to the main campus core.

Although we haven't completely cut yet, we are at 5.5 and I don't know when we will be upgrading to 6.0

So my questions are;

1. Are there major differences between Release 5.5 and 6.0?

2. I am being sent to Nortel/Global Knowledge training - Do I opt for the CS1000 5.5 Admin (no longer offered at training facility, self pace CD only) or go to the CS1000 6.0 Admin course?

3. What about the Install and Maintenance courses? Would the CS1000 6.0 Install course be helpful/useful with our current CS1000 5.5?

BTW, since I'm sort of new to the Nortel World, these were the classes I was considering;

CS1000 6.0 Familiarization
CS1000 6.0 Administration and Management
Call Pilot 5.0 Administration and Applications
CS1000 6.0 Installation and Maintenance
Contact Center Manager Administration

Thanks in advance for any input/recommendations.

there are a lot of Security diffs, and software platform as well I think. One point of log on, so you dont have to log in pbx, then/or SS, NRS, etc.

We haven't implemented it yet, but SIP is available in 6.0.

Oh, and a bunch of bugs.

So, I guess the hardware is all the same, just some security features, bugs (LOL), and single log on update?

I thought there would be more information/opinions on the 5.5 versus 6.0 differences and training. I guess I'll get the training on the 6.0 platform and work it backwards to our 5.5 release.

Thanks

If you are new to nortel, and will be maintaining a group of systems running 5.5, then you will be better served by taking the training specific to 5.5.

There are major changes in release 6.0 that affect everything from the way you log into the system, how different system elements communicate with each other, loading software, and applying patches.

I would take the 5.5 specific stuff if I were you, and would get the 6.0 NTPs and start reading them to get a good idea of what the differences are.

I agree with allenmac. Rls 5.5 training would be better as there are several fundemental changes in Rls 6.

There is a huge difference between Rls 5.5 and 6, both in hardware, software, programming and security. If you are are to maintain or install Rls5.5 and 6 and are unfamiliar with both I would suggest you do both courses....trust me, Rls 6 is a BITCH!

Thanks to everyone, that's what I wanted to hear.
I will go ahead with the 5.5 training.
I can't believe they don't still offer formal 5.5 training.

the 9751 was one of the best boxes on the market prior to simmons. when i did installs i had a script that took ext out of the 9005 and built them in the nortel..

points are correct on trainig.. the biggest thing you'll see when you compare rolm to nortel is you do not add ext. you put an ext on a phone and forwards hunts etc are controlled by that set.. hunt groups are way diff in nortel, to a point where that are seldom used..acd is easy in the nortel.. cp is clean.. you can intergrate a rolm mail with nortel and get msg lamps..

lex is replaced with ld 32 idu.. (now your certified)

You can't buy a 5.5 system any more. All training is transitioned to 6.0.

Thanks for the certification John!

Don't get me started on comparing the Rolm 9751 and our new Nortel CS1000 !!! I will be clinging onto the 9751 even as they're pulling it out of the switchroom.
I know it's early, but I'm not a huge fan of the Nortel CS1000 product...yet. We'll see.
