I was wondering if anyone could provide some advice concerning learning web developing with Macromedia DreamWeaver, etc. I have seriously considered taking a correspondence course (maybe 2 separate ones) from Thompson Education Direct - Does anyone in here recommend this sort of training, or have any other recommendations that may be better? The way it is setup with Thompson Education Direct is you pay about $700-$800 for a 2 year course where you are provided software, books, etc, and at the end some sort of certificate. It's kind of like an associates degree in college with the way it is set up. From what I read and all, it looks very informative, but thought I'd ask some experts for some advice on the matter. From what I understand, in order to get seriously good with this stuff, it's very adviseable to take some sort of courses. One plus with the Macromedia course is that they provide DreamWeaver MX as part of the program (included in the total cost).

Well depending on your capability you could probably buy Dreamweaver MX 2004 and a good tutorial book (or 3) and be off to the races.

IMHO I believe a class would be helpful for the basics, but really there is no exchange for good old fashioned, knuckle down, nose to the grindstone hands on learning. Some people don't learn well this way though.

You could of course also download the trial version of Dreamweaver for free and see if you could learn that way. It would cost you a bit of time and the cost of a book, but might be worth it for you.

Thanks for the Handle and the Signature.

Thanks for the advice. I've been seriously considering at least doing enough to do a really good web page for my church, and maybe for a few small businesses (as a goal), but I want to make sure that I can really do a good job. I don't want just a "status quo" website. The way I think about things is that I want to do the very best that I possibly can (though sometimes fall short - laziness can creap in on some things).

Anyway, on the Signature picture (just as a note), I picked the "Infinity" smiley to add in, since God has no beginning and no end, thus he is infinite! [wink]
