Hi- I work at a TV station that has a Definity Prologix/Audix system. My desk is closest to the telco room, so it was connected to my computer and I became the administrator. I can handle the basic stuff, but a suggestion has been made and I don't have a clue how to implement it.

Management would like to have a button programmed on the attendant console at the front desk to function as a security alert. The idea is the receptionist could press the button and a message would be announced on specific telephones, similar to a group page. Can this be done?

A way to do this is to establish a Call Coverage Group (up to 8 telephones). Put the Call Coverage Group in a new coverage path with Coverage ALL set or to cover after 1 ring. Create an X-Port Station Extension and set it to cover to the coverage path that contains the coverage group. In the name field for X-Port setup the name as EMERGENCY.
On the attendant console, set up an abbreviated dial button that will dial the X-Port's extension. When the attendant pressed the abbreviated dial button, it will ring all the phones in the coverage group and EMERGENCY will display on their phones. You could also set the abbreviated dial button to send the feature access code for priority call. To make this work, I believe Call Coverage ALL needs to be set. I know for a real phone (not an X-port) that GOTO COVER needs to be activated before a priority call follows the coverage path.

I set this up over the weekend and it seems to work fine. Thanks Leo.

Does anyone know how I might go about hiding the actual dialed number when using 'abbreviated dial' lists on the Avaya? Is there an option somewhere to inhibit the displaying of the dialed number? Not for all calls, just speed dials.
I have 100s of these numbers so I don't really want to use a VDN to a Vector kind of thing.

Thanks

Yes, mrtelcom, just insert ~s before the number.
