Hi All,

I need to buy some new handsets for our Definity and the price is, well incredible. My Finance guy almost popped his pace maker when I presented him with the order and he's basically told me to get lost. So I either have to put analogue phones in or source alternatives.
In the Add Station page you have to supply the handset type so I'm worried I can only buy a Lucent handset to work with the Definity. Can someone confirm this or tell me where I can get a cheaper make that 'emulates' the Lucent brand (or a new Finance guy) :) ?

Thanks
Simon

Any true analog phone will work using a set type of 2500 programmed on an analog station circuit pack. You're just going to loose all of the wonderfull digital features we've all grown to love! -CL

If you want a digital set, you'll have to buy it from Avaya. However, you should be able to put any analog set on the system. Just set it up as a 2500. You might try second hand market, too. They are quite a bit cheaper especially if you buy a refurb.

Thanks guys. Yes I'm aware of the analog route but didn't want to have to do that when they would be losing so many features. I will try the idea of the refurb market and see what I can come up with. thanks.

What type of sets did you show the finance guy? You should be able to get the basic 8403D sets on the refurb market for no more than $75 each. -CL

You said new handsets, are you just looking for the handset or do you need the whole phone? As for specifying handset type on the station form I don't see what you're talking about. As to handset types, I can plug any old handset I want into my digital Lucent telephone and I get dial tone and can talk; they just don't all fit in the cradle. So, what I think you may be running into is the new talk about needing volume controlled amplified handsets. Those puppies are expensive. I know you can still find the plain jane handsets in the 8000 series style on the market for around 10 bucks I'm not sure on the 6000 series phones but I imagine the same holds true. Also, as a general rule, I don't buy anything from Avaya except the necessary RTU.

Check out CMS Solutions(new and refurb). Also we have a corp. account with CDW, they have pretty good prices on new equipment.

Simon, the 'HANDSET' field on the 'ADD STATION' form is just an informational field and does not need to be filled out. Any handset should work for you if you can find one that matches the shape of the original (if that's important). I havent had any problems replacing them, but if you buy some and they don't seem to work, you'll probably just need to open the handset up and swap the two leads that go to the reciever (ear piece) with the two leads that go to the transmitter (mouth piece).
