Does anyone now how to boost a digital signal further than the distance that a defintiy will currently produce. I have the need to put a digital phone at a distance farther than a digital signal will currently travel and am looking for a way to do this. We currently have two distance extenders in place (one at each end) and they are dropping calls and timing out, just unreliable. PLEASE HELP!

Definity Extender 1101

We currently have a definity extender at each end, and are connected to the PBX via POTS. At the detination end we have a digital phone (6408 D+) connected to the extender. One extender dials the other each time a call is placed. Once the connection is established, all digital phone functions are available, like multiple line apperances, multiple lines, etc. The extender then holds the call for a short amount of time (approx three minutes)then disconnects. I have changed the timeout values and continue to get disconects.
As this is a very important line/connection for us to maintain, I was wondering if there is any other way to create a more stable connection and still be able to use a digital phone at this distance. For example some sort of voltage amplifier for digital sets, or any thing that would provide a way to get the digital signal out to this point.

I'm not sure as to why the units are timing out and disconnecting. I am going to assume that the far end is dialing long distance into the switch unit which might explain why it dials in only when needed. I'm curious if you have considered trying to perform the same function using an ISDN line. You could still use your analog extenders and have a more stable connection. Plus, you'd be one upgrade away from going to ISDN extenders which would give you an overall better connection.

The phone is only about a 1 1/2 to 2 miles away from an epn, and there is just one phone connected to the distance extender. Therefore it is not necessary to pay for an ISDN line when we will only be using it for a single phone set. Thanks for the suggested.
