Last night we got a call from Avaya saying that our Audix reported an error and they fixed it remotely.

How can we check what errors are happening?

Our definity G3 says that we have 70 warnings, how do I see what these warnings are and potentially fix them?

Display errors
Display alarms

Thanks All Phoneman2

Its scary when someone does not even know how to look at errors or alarms......
Should they even be messing with the switch?

Here's the next logical question...

(thanks by the way Phoneman2)

Where do I get a list of the error codes so I know what they mean?

They are in the documentation CD, You cna search under the code. Just remember the code is common to several different areas of the switch, so you have ot make sure your looking at the correct one.

Bobg1,

We maintain a switch with about 3000 stations, with several miles out outside plant cable in place. I am more of an outside plant type of guy. The things we know how to do on the switch are what we've learned that we needed to. As far as the majority of the programming and maintanence, we have had Avaya doing it in the past, but due to budget cuts -- we're taking on a lot of the load.

I've been a UNIX systems administrator for over eight years, I'm fairly well spoken with about nine different programming languages, six different UNIX platforms.

Learning isn't a bad thing, so I don't think your comment was well placed pal.

It is a good to look at and resolve alarms/errors in your switch. I feel that if you keep your system as clean of these errors and alarms you will have fewer problems with it. I have several tech's that I am teaching to work on our system. One of the first things I tell them is to not be affraid it, but give it the do respect. I still have the old maintenance manuels and make them look up error codes to resolve are alarms. So my advise is to jump into the error and alarms codes. Research the codes to pinpoint problems. Then research to find the proper methods to clear those.

If you find any mistakes, please consider that they are there for a purpose. And everyone needs a purpose.

I've got my PDFs of the Definity manuals...

Anyone happen to know what page number the alarm codes are listed on?

I've tried searching for the Alarm codes that we have active, which are 529, 3329, and 513.

They are in the maintenance manuals.
You first lookup the board type (mtce name)that the alarm is on then look for the numbers under that type, then use any aux data that it shows ( in some cases it isn't even used).

This may help you. This is the errors that I have in the switch right now. To clear these errors look under dig-line for the maintenance object. This will give you all the error codes for digital lines. Most of these are error type 513. Under the 513 error code it will give you a list of possibilities and repair procedures. This is just on digital sets but the rest are the same. Look under the maintenance object first and then look for the error codes.

Hope this helps you.

Explain that a little more for me Mikey. What do you mean by the maintanence object? I can't even find out what the error codes mean, I'm searching through my manuals -- but there's no table with Error code X means Y.

I know how to see my errors, etc. but just not what the problem is because of the cryptic nature to the error code.

In my post above. Look at the maintenance name. It will show Dig-line. This tells me that this problem is with a digital line. Next look at alt name. This is the extension number for that digital line. That is how you begin. Next look at the error type and aux data. This will be under digital line for maintenacne object, then cross the error type and aux data. That should pretty well pinpoint it for you. If you need more send me your email and I will try to step you through it.

If you find any mistakes, please consider that they are there for a purpose. And everyone needs a purpose.
