I am coming into a new job at a small shop, and the servers are set up very different to what I am used to. I am used to numerous volumes, one for data, one for apps, one for shared files.

I am also used to sorting users by OU's that separate them by job type. I know there were some very specific things that could be best done through OU's rather the groups.

The only other admin is a person who knows far less that I do. I would like to set up the network more like I am accustomed, but I know I will be questioned on my actions. Are there any good guides or books that you can point to that would help me in my new job.

Thanks!

Just to clarify my post, the new network I am working on has NO separation by OU's, all the users are at the root, it also has no volumes on the servers other than sys.

Just thought I'd add that to better clear up my last post.

I love it when MS flunkies build Novell networks. From what you are saying, you are cleaning up after someone that appears to have been a little dizzy from Irritable M$CROshaft syndrome.

No real need to explain anything to management except for how inefficient the old way is and how great it is that the other guy is no longer there. Then just start moving stuff around, creating containers, etc. Just make sure you create Aliases so the users don't notice right away. Then implement contextless login so when you take away the aliases they won't even know anything has moved.

Using a strategy like this, you can gradually get the tree how it should be and away from the flat structure you have now. Not only can you do this with users, but you can do it with Volumes (hopefully you're using NSS), printers, etc.

Just don't do everything at once. Be patient and do it gradual so you don't get on peoples nerves.
