Several users of my app report that they cannot print reports. It looks OK in Preview, but prints very strange fonts.

A search on the Crystal site reveals that this is a known issue.

It seems that it is a printer specific issue. This is what they say:

Printing from Crystal Reports 9 displays cryptic symbols: This will occur if the printer driver does not support Unicode. CR 9 uses Unicode functions to
Print. Previous versions of CR did not use Unicode.

So what do I do? I sell a shrink-wrapped product and would like it to work smoothly for the user. Judging from the number of queries there must be a lot of printers out there that are not compatible with Cr9.

Do I need to abandon Cr9 and purchase Cr8.5? Or is there a more sensible solution?

Any suggestions will be welcome.

TIA
Cyril.

hi
This seams to be a printer dll problem.check seagate has the dll for your printer.

We are having this same issue. We are printing from an NT machine. The font comes out garbled. We try the same test on a separate NT machine, to the same printer and it works fine?

Any ideas as to what to look for on the machine having the problem?

Thanks.

That sounds like a printer driver issue. Upgrade the problem PC to the latest version.

Is there any way to turn off the unicode functionality in Crystal 9 so our users (who do not have printers that support unicode) will be able to run our reports without a problem?

Didn't really resolve it, but did some further research.

If you search for the threads:

Crystal 9: Unicode and Special Characters
or
Crytal 9: Faxing problem with Windows NT (v4.0.0.1381 sp6)

you can see what we have discovered.
