Cordless Phone Test 2

There switch is unable to determine what kind of phone is plugged into an analog or digital port. If it is analog, all the switch knows is its analog. Digital you must specify the phone type on the station form. It is unable to read the phone.

Like dmoore said there is no way via the switch to know.
Do you have so many single line phones that you can't just walk around and look at them?

If they're using newer cordless phones and you have tests enabled on the analog stations, the phone will ring once every 15 minutes. This is usually annoying enough that I get a call on it within the first day or so, but for some reason it only seems to affect 2.4 and 5.8 Ghz phones, not 900 mhz. Other than that I'd say your out of luck.

Are all your 1000 phones analog? You may want to check with your purchasing dept if anyone has ordered any kind of wireless phone equipment that would work on a digital or analog line. Most cordless phones are single line use so you could look at where are the single lines. Just some thoughts.

I don't have a technical solution to your management problem.
If the company policy is no wireless phones and you have no way of testing to see if an analog port has a wireless phone connected to it, it's a manangement issue. Surely there are many managers over such a large number of people. They need to get off their butts and go door to door looking for wireless phone. "Hi, I'm your manager, the person that approves your paycheck, show me your phone."

The only way to test all of the phones is to make sure they all have the y next to tests on the station forms. The system will test the phones every 15 minutes, but as Richard says, the responsibility really should fall back to management to enforce company policy.

I looked at an analog station in Avaya Site Administrator and do not see anything about tests on the three pages for the station. My next question is if I do find this test and put a "Y" next to it will only the cordless phones ring or all of the analog phones ring?
It should be next to hunt to station and below COS on the front page. I'm not sure if there is anything else you have to turn on to enable tests on analog sets, but digital sets do not have this field because you cannot turn tests off. Make sure your set type is 500 or 2500. I've never had a regular phone ring, just higher frequency cordless phones.

Several people have already told you that there is no way to find these phones. You cannot even find the test field on the station form. What do you expect?

First of all phonepd I explained how many phones that I am dealing with. I was not mad that no one helped me at all.
Second when people keep asking you how many phones you have you reply like I did.
I really appreciate all the replies I have had so I now know there is no way to determine if there are cordless phones thru a test.

I just pulled up a few random analog stations, they all have a "y" in the tests field. Then I tried to build a new one and the "y" comes up by default. I've been working an Lucent/Avaya for about 8 years and never really noticed the field. Never caused me a problem...
I have about 600 analog station in my switch, and suspect they all have the tests option turned on. IF, like Dustin, said it would cause the phoene to ring every 15 minutes I'de be getting a lot of trouble tickets, but I don't, so there must be more to this.
SheepDog, I think your wording about the 1,000 stations was a little confusing (though not as confusing as mine when I suggested you get out there and kick some butt). Plus its unusual for anyone to have that many analog stations. I thought I was the only person in America with a G3r that had so many analog ports.
Also, do you use GEDI or terminal emulation?

Is there something (or someone) along the information super highway that's hijacking my spelling or is it just me? I read and reread my post's for spelling and grammar mistakes and still these mistakes appear. Left wing plot against me? Al Gore's messin' with my info and it's feakin' me out!
