I transferred databases to new hardware for our new exchange server.
I followed the instructions in Microsoft Knowledge base article 297289. Afer doing so I would get "Computer name is already in use in directory" error when I tried to join domain. I the followed article 325674 instructions because I was getting these errors in event log on the exchange server.
After these steps I would get the error mentioned in the subject. If I logged on locally to the machine I could then change the computers domain membership by taking out the extras, meaning, in the box it would say fvrd.bc.ca i would change it to just fvrd, rejoin the domain, and everything would work fine. I could then log into the domain. But if I rebooted the machine, it would lose it membership and I would be back to the subject line error.
Im VERY stumped on this one. Im going to be upgrading to exchange 2003 and server 2003 as soon as I fix this but Im considering just going for it anyway.

Take it out of the domain, delete the Computer account in AD, recreate the account, then rejoin the server to the domain.

Yes, I have done that. And when I have done that I readed the computer account to the security locations as stated in the ms article [LN];325674
.
After I rejoin domain, everthing works great unless I reboot the machine. Iam then back to computer account missing error.

I think it sounds like the FQDN of the server is being added back to the server after it joins the domain. So when you deleted the bc.ca you could join the domain.

Then when you have joined the domain the FQDN is put back (normal).

Do a search in AD for the FQDN across the whole directory and I think you may find another name the same as the FQDN either in the top level COMPUTERS OU or in another OU somewhere.

If you find it, delete it and then try rejoining the domain.

Thanks
