compact problem with lines not ringing on sets

I have a compact that has 4 centrex lines connected to it. The lines are set to appear and ring in programming, but they make a slight chirp occasionally and flash on and off on sets; however, they stopped ringing properly. I placed a butt set on rj21 and called and it rings in same way, weird short. Callers hear ringing as normal, and if you see flash and pick up conversation is normal. Any suggestions?

Maybe the CO is sending an odd ringing pattern that the CICS can't process. Have you tried another trunk card?

this is an existing system in place for years, and problem just started suddenly?

I'd try another trunk card, but it could be a carrier problem. Measure the ringing voltage, or place an analog phone directly on the lines to see if ringing sounds normal. If ringing sounds abnormal directly on the line then it's a carrier issue.

I agree, voltage issue...not enough to ring the phones.
