It's been a long time since I have managed a phone switch, but it's time to dig waaaaay back. I have recently taken over the telephony responsibilities at the company that I work for. I'm not sure if it's a permanent thing, but what I do know is that I've been thrown into a pretty big project. I will most definitely be posting more than once in the coming weeks, so I'll start with my first question.

I am working with an Avaya PBX. I am not 100% sure of the model but I believe it is an S8700 Media Server. We are expanding into a new space, adding around 25 new offices/cubes. We aren't adding new people yet, just new spaces with each space having a new phone, VM box, license, etc. What command can I run to see how many open ports I am working with??

Thanks in advance.

open ports would be a list config all than a list marked ports. for software right display capacities.

'list configuration all' will show you physical ports.
'display capacity' (around page 12) will show you spare station RTU.

display capacity will give you totals of licesing,, etc..

if you hit the harware manager (on the fault and performance tab) then click on the "name" fiels to sort them,, you can see how many digital and analog boards are in your system,, and how many of those are used...

Welcome TwystedPair,

Do "list config all". On the digital ports you should (hopefully) see some ports with a U, T or P as long as it doesn't have a number your good.

Also try "list station port x"

This should show all station not logged on, so may not be in use. At least this will get you started.

This is the best site i have ever found for infomation

Thank you for all of the helpful replies. I am looking at the output of the "list config all" command, and I need a bit of translation help. I see all of the cards in each chassis, but my question is what the numbers and letters mean under "Assigned Ports". I assume that numbers mean that the ports are being used, and the u says it stands for "unassigned" which I assume means that it's available for use, but what does "p=psa" mean? I am looking at the digital cards and there are a lot of ports with this p.

Thanks again.

Zen216,

Where do I find the Fault and Performance tab?? I am using Avaya Site Administration to connect to the switch.

Thanks again for the reply.

Numbers mean they are assigned T = TTI port (Available) P = Personal Station Access (Available) U = Unassigned (Available) or unavailable Which a list marked ports should help you out figuring which is which

in ASA, on the left pane you have general (general has gedi as one button), advanced (advanced has emulation as one button), and fault & Performance... under each is a list of buttons..
hit hardware manager and it will give you a graphical display of your config...
