Command to detect EtherSwitch on 3700

We had to power down our Cisco 3700 router at the weekend. This roter is used as our default gateway for over 100 users. We just discovered now that a VLAN on the EtherSwitch is showing as down. We think that this is because the router didn't detect the EtherSwitch when it was switched back on again. When I do show ip int brief the interface isn't listed (I don't know the exact name of the interface but the IP is 10.128.12.254 - and that's not listed). If we re-seat the module will it be re-detected, or is there any chance that it could crash the router? Obviously the easiest solution would be to restart the router - but we can't do that because it would affect all our users.

Or is there any command that we can issue to re-detect it? I'm guessing not but I'm hoping that there is !!

Can anybody help me out here?

I don't think the 3700 modules are hot swappable, so removing and inserting a module might make your router crash.
Has the router taken the correct IOS after you started it up again (after the power down) and the correct config?

CCNA, CCNP..partly ;)

I contact Cisco about this - even thought I don't have a contact on this router they were willing to help. They said that we are using the IP Feature Set instead but that we needed the IP Plus Feature set for the version of IOS that we're running. So he said that we need to upgrade the IOS. What I'm struggling to understand now is why it worked for the past two years and now all of a sudden it doesn't. Is it possible it loaded the wrong image file? I wouldn't have thought so. How can I find out what image files are on there? Doesn't it just load one file from flash memory? Sorry, it's been a while since I don't my CCNA and it's only in the past few months I've started working on routers again so I'm a bit rusty on all this.

On the 3700 do a "dir flash: and it will tell you what is in flash if there is more than 1 image in there .

OK, I done some research and also contacted Cisco again. There are 2 files in flash memeory - however, the wrong one got loaded at startup. cisco said that the config was slightly wrong. It says the following

boot system flash c3750-is-mz.122-15.T9.bin - this is the correct file that should be loaded at startup, but it was no. Apparently, cisco say that the line should say
boot system flash flash:c3750-is-mz.122-15.T9.bin

Sometimes the router can boots up with the proper image if the boot statements are not configured properly, but studies have shown that the recommended syntax would be much more undersandable for the routers, because most of the times the Cisco routers cannot deal with the 'boot system flash c3725-is-mz.122-15.T9.bin' command.

This is what Cisco said. So apparently with the way our system is configured it's hit and miss !!
