Combo Box Properties on Excel Spreadsheet?

Hi,

I'm making a chart in Excel 97 where one column value must always be selected from a drop-down list.

How can I make a drop-down list that automatically resizes with the row height and ensure that only the *value* of the drop down list shows up when I print the spreadsheet (as opposed to the entire combo-box object?)

I've added a combo-box Active-X control to one row, but the size of the box is always the same regardless of the height of the row (the "Move and Size with Cells" option of the object is grayed out).

In addition, when I print the spreadsheet, the actual control button is printed (i.e. the small box with triangle on the right hand side of the control). However I just want the cell value to show up.

These are just a couple of thoughts.

Make sure your combo has been created from the Control Toolbox and not the forms toolbar.
Right click on the combo and you should be able to set the move & resize property as normal under the Format Control Option.
At this point set the object to not print (make sense?!?!?)
I the normal properties for the object (RClk, Properties) set the LinkedCell Property to a cell behind the combo. This means that it will print while the combo won't.

As I say, just ideas and there may well be a much better solution!

Thanks for your reply. When I create a listbox/combo box using the Control Toolbox, when I look in the object properties, where do I indicate the data source?

It's the property after the 'LinkedCell' property, 'ListFillRange.' Although it is strongly recommended that named ranges are used as often as possible, this is one case where I believe them to be essential.

Actually, having reconsidered your problem, would using data validation be a better option. You get your dropdown only when the cell is active, you enter the data into a cell so there are no move & size issues and you only print what is selected in the cell (no drop downs)

Create from a list and enter the name of the range containing the list and you're away!

Just another thought (I'll have to be careful about them!)
