Cloning Servers Problem 1

I've built two MetaFrame XP servers, and taken an image of the second to use for cloning as described in Douglas Brown's 'Methodology in a Box'.

From this image I've build another four servers successfully.

When I came to build the next server from the same image, even going through exactly the same procedure, the MetaFrame COM service fails to load and so the IMA service doesn't load.

I've tried removing Citrix and re-installing but the installer gets to the end and fails to start these same services.

I've gone through the previous fixes for Com service failures and none of these have helped.

Any ideas on where to look next gratefully received!

Hi there,

Have you tried to recreate the local host cache on the server you've just cloned? I've had a similar sort of problem whereby I use an image to build all of the servers within a farm, but one or two of them have the problem you've mentioned. Not sure if thats one of the com service failure things you've already mentioned, but certainly, like you, it was the odd server which didn't work, whilst all of the others did. the command line I use is

dsmaint recreatelhc

service (and the associated services) then start ok.

Apologies if i've missed the nature of the problem, it just sounds like the one I've had in the past.

best of luck,

Hi edlcsre.

I did that, and managed to start the server with the IMA service set to automatic and the COM service disabled. This seems to work fine and the new server has been up and running for 24 hours now.

I'll keep an eye on it for a while before it goes into production!

Cheers,

Brian.
