If you want to show your QuarkXPress output to a person who does not use QuarkXPress then you should use SAVE AS EPS option. In this, all the images will be embedded but the fonts will not be. So you can also send the COLLECT FOR OUTPUT file with this EPS file. This will give information about all the fonts used in your EPS file plus other details. You will also have to send the Picture source file with the EPS incase the Person at the other end wants to take a High resolution print out. If he does not require a print then you can only send the EPS file.
There are a few things that you can do. First option would be to Export the document as pdf for which you'll require Acrobat Distiller and to read that pdf file you'd require Acrobat reader. Acrobat reader can be downloaded for free from
but if you don't have Acrobat distiller you'll need to purchase one.
Second option would be to save the file as eps and also do the collect for output which will create an xtg file and send both the eps file and the xtg file to your client. The xtg file holds the information about the QuarkXPress file i.e fonts used in the document, colors etc. If your client does not have the fonts used in the eps file then he/she can look at the xtg file to know which fonts he/she needs to have. This is only if your client wants to print the eps file you are going to send him/her.
If no printing is involved then you can just send the eps file to your client.
