Cisco 1710 remote site loses connection?

I have Cisco 1710 routers at seventeen remote locations. I am using a DSL connection with, in most cases, a netopia DSL router supplied by the phone co. The Netopia is configured to bridge mode and we have static IP addresses. About once or twice a week I notice when I come in in the morning that one of my remote sites is no longer connected. I have some one at that site power cycle the Cisco and the VPN tunnel is active again. This happens at most of the sites periodically. We do have the equipment pluged into a UPS so power is steady.

What may be causing the break?

What can I do to make the connection more stable?

What kind of logging should I enable to maybe give me a clue as to what is happening?

Thanks

Ron

Since you are creating a VPN tunnel from site-to-site you have to deal with the timeout values. As long as you have data traversing the VPN tunnel the session should stay active. But, in the evenings when no one is around and data is not traversing the VPN tunnel, the timeout values are adhered too, and the session is terminated.

You shouldn't have to power cycle the router to get the VPN tunnel up and active. All it should take is for data to be sent from site to site and the VPN tunnel should be initiated.

I'm going to have to check, but I believe you can change the timeout values for a VPN tunnel.
