I bought an AMD AthlonXP 1500+ after reading on the Chaintech web site that my board (7AJA2) supported AMD XP's with their BIOS update.

Installed CPU.
Booted under original BIOS.. All Well.
Recognized CPU as AMD Athlon running at 1000MHz.

Installed their latest BIOS update & rebooted.
CPU recognized as AMD AthlonXP (no type number) running at 1000MHz. Sytem became unstable and blue screened.
Restored old BIOS.
Repeated using their latest flashing software. Same results.
BIOS Restored.

Chaintech have adopted website based technical support and requires the mobo's serial # to complete the web form... Guess what. Yep, no trace of a serial# on the mobo pcb or any labels. The two Chaintech e-mail addys I found on other sites both bounced as undeliverable.

ARRGGH!

If you can help with any of the above I promise to drink an extra beer for you this Christmas in my local watering hole :)

Thanks all.. the more the merrier :)

AMD AthlonXP 1500+
Chaintech 7AJA2
IBM 100/7200 40 gig
500 MB pc133
GeForce2
Plenty of cooling
16x CDR
16x DVD
ATX Case, PS 350w.

Serial # on BOTTOM of mainboard (maybe).
I have seen that on many boards, if it isn't on the
Parellel port,,,,,,, or on the mainboard box (you saved that, right ?)

*Note: always flash the BIOS before installing new CPU. The computer might not boot at all with a brand new CPU model without the newest BIOS.

LAST: After updating BIOS, as soon as it boots up, you need to enter BIOS and run,,,,,, "Load Setup Defaults" and save, and rebooting. (I'm sure that may have happened, but it's all I can offer from afar).

Thanks for the help... I'll investigate the mobo further for a serial#.
And no I didn't save the mobo box (slaps head in *DOH* style).

Would still be interested in a working e-mail addy for Chaintech if anyone has one?

TNX again

Wonder if you can stick a mirror under the board to read the serial number? If you do not like my post feel free to point out your opinion or my errors.

Tomorrow AM.. board & magifying glass out again.

Tried flashing with every combo possible.
Tried changing the core Voltage and bus freq'... Got it up to 1200MHz.. but halted during boot with a win general prot' error at the point where my usb mouse flashed. Disabled usb in BIOS and it boots. Any higher and sytem bombs at bios level.. CMOS reset.

How annoying.

Probem solved.. error in mobo manual.
Thanks for your helpful suggestions

Cheers. :)

Glad to know you solved the problem. It may be helpful to others if you explained what you did to resolve this problem.

The techs answering questions in this forum learn from your experience also. A little feedback would be appreciated.

Sorry for the delay getting back..

Jumper on mobo (jp9) switches FSB to 133Mhz... manual says that chaintech mobo's using the kt133a chiset do not support changing the FSB..

Asked a sysadmin at my place of work and he said it was a known error in the mobo manual.

Grrrr!
