changing upgrade password 1

I have a new customer with a 406v2 with 3.2 software i want to upgrade them to 5.0. When I enter the default password it gives me an error like I am using the wrong password. Can this upgrade password be changed? and is there a back door password if I can't get this from the old vendor?

I have never changed this password in any system. And I didn't know it could be changed. the Manager password is still default, so I figured this would be too.

Did you try Administrator or password?

If you have an old config you could use Snadboy to recover the old password.

You need to reset the security settings.
Then you have the default password again.
Bas1234 his method only works on 3.1 or lower.

You can reset the security settings with manager if the security password is default or with a DTE cable

Then you need to connect to the ipo with

38400
8
N
1

Then type AT
Then type AT-SECURITYRESETALL

Then you can use the default login again

When you upgrade from pre 3.2 to 3.2+ the monitor password is preserved. i.e. if you had "fred" before you will have "fred" afterwards. I'd bet that the pre 3.2 config had a blank monitor password, so to use monitor / call status you had to use the system password. In this case the old system password will be carried through as the new monitor password.

So using BAs1234 suggestion - you need to look at the system password - or you may already know it!

If you have the old "network alchemy tool", pull out a config using the "password" as password then use Snadboy, this can be done up to Release 5 and older.

Dont use it to sent changes back!!!

But then you do not have the security password so you can not change it
And the upgrade should be done on the location itself (i prefer to do it that way)

Wow I love this forum. Thanks guys. I tried to get into security with user name "Administrator" and "securitypwd" no luck. I think the old vendor locked them down.

I do have the old config file, but how can I use snadboy on it? I thought the olny way snadboy gave you the password is if you see the ***** stars?

As for DTE... I am in Miami and the system is in Western Mexico. I do have a good IT guy out there, so that might be the only option now. Does anyone have notes I can forward him on setting up and using DTE?

try to open the config using an older version of manager. then you will see the *** and be able to use snadboy

hey I got into the security admin... I need to change the monitor password, so i can upgrade the system. I am using snadboy and all I got from the ************ is 12123456781212345678 is this a binary code? Or is there something else I can use to get the password so i can change it?

You can not use snadboys with the security settings
Use manager to default the security settings and the upgrade password will be password
Then you can upgrade and you can change the password in everything you like

I got it now. We had to use the DTE port and reset security settings worked after a reboot. Thanks for all the help. now for the next fun project... SIP trunks

Jeff, if you can login on the security settings then you can reset the security settings also with manager

Go to "file" "advanced" and then "erase security settings"
Only if you do not have the login for it you need to use the DTE

But it is sorted now
