I have a problem with Windows 98SE. One day when I booted the machine up, in My Computer the CD Rom drive is shown as removable device and not as a CD Rom drive. I have checked the properties and everything seems ok (removable device is not ticked in device manager).
I swapped CD Roms drives and they both do the same.
BIOS detects the CD Rom drive without a problem and it is shown in device manager as a CD Rom device.

plz first verify that your cdrom is ok or not.. if its working fine then you have only one option to reinstall the OS or install cdrom driver for win98se.

goodluck

Before you reinstall the OS..
Shut the system down. Disconnect the power and data plugs on the CD and reboot.
Shut down again, reconnect the plugs and let Winders rediscover it.
