Greetings

I'm Running Windows XP Pro and OE 6 SP1 (with a wireless
connection from my laptop). I Just switched Broadband
Service Providers.
Everything works fine, (as for
the the last 7 years)except that now I cannot send e-
mails (though I can receive them). When I try to send I
get the following error message:

"The message could not be sent because one of the
recipients was rejected by the server. The rejected e-
mail address was 'TPannam@team.primus.com.au'.
Subject 'Re: test email from helpdesk',
Account: 'pop.primus.com (1)',
Server: 'smtp.primus.com', Protocol: SMTP, Server
Response: '550 RCPT TO:<x@team.primus.com.au>
Relaying not allowed', Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Server
Error: 550, Error Number: 0x800CCC79"

Interestingly, I am able to send an e-mail to myself but
not to anyone else. I can send from my web mailbox (ie:
by logging into my ISP web mail via the internet, but not
from OE.

My ISP Support said all was fine on their end and that
my OE Mail Settings were fine. After hours on the phone
with them I was told to reinstall OE but that didn't work
either. I also disabled Norton's Internet Security.

Would appreciate any advice. (Could this have to do with
(Port: 25) issues. I hear that most servers are blocking
Port 25. I can receive email fine).

Many thanks -

Error 550 means you are trying to relay off an SMTP server without being actually on that providers network.

You will need to make sure that you are using the correct outgoing SMTP provider for your wireless provider.

In other words if your wireless provider lets say was BellSouth and your mail account was with Earthlink you configure OE to use Earthlink's incoming server but the outgoing server would need to be BellSouth's SMTP server.

Perhaps I mispoke. When I said: "wireless connection from my laptop," I simply meant that I had a wireless (radio) link from my laptop to my modem (so that I can use my laptop anywhere in my house (or 100 meters) without having to have it connected into a phone line). Therefore, I have no "wireless" provider as you mentioned above, just a broadband ISP with Iprimus (I'm in Sydney).

So I still can't send e-mail but I can receive e-mail and connect to the net without problems.

NB: Someone said they resolved a similar problem with OE simply by ticking the "My server requires authentication" button under (Tools - Accounts - Properties - Servers tab). Could this possibly resolve the issue? (I'm at a different computer now, so can't try it).

Could "Norton Internet Security" (which provides a firewall option) be causing the problem... I've disabled it but still have the problem. Also, I never had the problem before swithing ISP's and always had Norton's running then.

Thanks again -

The same still applies. You need to use the outoging SMTP server for Iprimus.

Most SMTP server don't require authentication to send outgoing messages as long as you are on their network but you will have to check with your ISP to be sure.

Your firewall would not be the issue for the error message you are getting.
