We have a few trunk groups on our G3si. Trunks 11 and 12 are ISDN PRI's (for a total of 46 channels). Trunk 4 is a group of Centrex lines (one main number and 7 rollovers). We want to take the main number from trunk 4 and port it to the PRI...only we need to have it re-route back to POTS lines in the event of a circuit failure. Our service provider said they want us to take some members out of one of the PRI trunk groups and create a new one-that way when they set up the failover on their end, only the main number that is being ported over from trunk group 4 will be re-routed to the backup POTS-and not all of the DID's that usually ring to groups 11 and 12. I've taken some members out of trunk group 12, and created a new trunk group (14). I also adjusted the dial plan to include the last four digits of the number being ported (3131) and set up the hunt group it will go to. As long as the provider sets up the channels/routing appropriately on their end, will this work? Thanks.

We have something similar set up. Their is one more thing to add. In the route patterns you will need to set the PRI group as the "1st" preference and the copper trunks as the secondary preference. If your provider has theirs set up the same way, it will be almost transparent when your PRI's go down.

See below

Our aerial fiber goes through a really nice neighborhood at one place. About 12:01 one New Years eve our fiber was shot. Yes a bullet went through the fiber and knocked out all of our PRI trunks. Our provider’s supervisors found (38) 9mm bullet casings on the ground below the fiber as they were looking for the trouble. The only way our operators even knew we had problems was their consoles started showing different trunk numbers (the secondary or backup trunk group) and an alarm on their console.

Last you may want to set up the secondary trunk group with a little higher FRL. This will leave those few trunks available to your CEO’s and not at everyone’s disposal.

Hey thanks for the quick reply. It sounds like we work in similar demographic areas...how fun. Although, none of my infrastructure has been shot out yet...just nearly everything else around it.

One question for you. This new trunk group will actually really be handling incoming calls only-it may actually go to an auto-attendant- I'm waiting to hear back on that. Outgoing will still be handled by the other two trunks (11 and 12), with another (trunk group 1 I think) that is POTS-this is already set up in the route patterns. So if trunk group 14 is handling incoming only, do I even need to add it to a route pattern? Thanks.

I should have explained a little better. I have 2 backup trunk groups. I have 12 DID's for incoming and 12 CO's for outgoing. I beleive the incoming should be handled through your provier and setup as a secondary preference on their end.

I have a solution for DR. My main number comes in on my 2 PRI's (46 channels). All of my incoming and outgoing calls use these PRI's. I have another trunk of 8 POTS lines as backup.

There is a service from Verizon called custom redirect, SBC calls it CLAR, may be called something else from other service providers. Any way, if the PRI goes down, I call a 800 number a redirect the main number to any of the 3 numbers that I have pre configured. This works great not only if the PRI goes down. But if the sight were to be destroyed, I can still forward the number to another sight.

Thanks guys. So from what I am gathering here, I have done everything I need to on the Definity side to get this to work? I just need my telco to port the number and set up the redirect? Thanks.
