Some of you know this story already - we have a meridian 61c and want our switchboard number and name to show up on caller ID. AT&T says we need PRI, Verizon says we don't. I just got off the phone with the Verizon tech. He says the AT&T circuit goes into switching equipment somewhere and it is there that the database is located. Our number should go there, then on to the outside world. AT&T says the number should come from our switch. Who is correct?

And is this chain correct: call to T1 - switching equipment - database - outside world - name matched to number - caller ID displays.

In my opinion,I think you need PRI and more so you need a D channel. The out going number should be controlled by the PBX CLID created entry in LD 15 and the out going name should
be sent out by the CO office.

Attendant console uses LDN0 digits and CLID entry 0.

I should add a few things here - we don't want extensions to show up, nobody's name - anything. Just the main switchboard number and the college name. Now why on earth would you need to program your entire switch to do that? All they need to do is put the number in the T1 database and it should work, right?

You don't need to send CLID information from your PBX. AT&T should be able to send the billing number or any number you request to be put on the account. Your scenario is correct. I have the same issue with AT&T and have been fighting them for months. The caller ID info works at several of our sites but doesn't at three of them. I get the same run around that you do. You do not need a PRI.
