Hello all,

I Have: Avaya IP Office R5

I had a user at extension 174. However, that user is no longer with the company and his phone was taken out of the office. I wanted to forward any calls to that extension, whether internal or external, to extension 147. I setup the forwarding under the "forwarding" tab for extension 174. When I go into the Ip Office System Status I can see that when I dial extension 174 that it goes to extension 147. However, extension 147's voicemail never answers. The line just keeps ringing and ringing. What am I doing wrong? I just want the person at extension 147, when they are in, to get 174's calls. If the person at 147 is not in then I want 147's voicemail to answer the call that was made to extension 174. Any help?

is VM for 147 turned on? and is unconditional forwarding set for extn 174?

It will always go to the original targets vm and if it's off it has nowhere to go so keeps ringing, you need to change the DDI/DID to the new destination and advise internally :)

I had forward unconditional set to on and the vm for 147 was on. If I dial 147 directly it goes to vm. Awesome. But when I dial ext 174 which is set to forward to 147 it just rings and rings. It's almost As if the system doesn't know whose vm I want so it rings endlessly. The goal is that for any calls internal or external to extension 174 I want the person at 147 to answer them or let them go to her vm.

if you have Vm Pro then turn vm for 174 back on and in the leave point for 174 make a leave mail option for 147 then the mail for 174 will also end up in 147's mailbox
With embedded you have less of an option and changing the DID / DDI is really the only valid option.

Thanks for the info. However, I have no idea where to find a leave point. Attached is a screenshot of what I see. I checked voicemail on again, but where do I go to control the leave point? Like I said...I'm a total noob. The most I know about Avaya is that it has an odd sounding name. But I am willing to learn! :)

Cipher, go into Voicemail Pro - it is a seperate program. In the top left pane you will see Users, Groups, and shortcodes. Right click on Users and click "Add" check the user you wish to create a leave point. Then go under Users and you will see his name. He will have a start point, create a "Leave Mail" and drag a line from the start point to the Leave Mail. Double click on Leave Mail and in Destination put in 147. Now when somebody goes into 174's voicemail they will really go into 147's.

Wow. Thanks, guys. You all are the best. That was a great learning experience that I never would've had if you folks hadn't responded. I was able to get the forwarding exactly as was needed. Thanks again!

How do I change the DID / DDI since I have embedded VM?. I want to acomplish the same scenario as above. Thanks in advance

rule of thumb: don't tag a question onto a thread that is done, open your own with a subject line that makes it easy to get into the problem, then describe the problem with info of the system (IP office processor release etc. if needed)
That way people know that there is a new thread in the system and look at it faster.

Having that said the answer might be for you to just change the target in the incoming call route to the new extension number because you can not influence things teh way voicemail Pro can.

create a short code SC=whatever is free, TN="#username of extension 147", action=Voicemail Colect.
Forward extension 174 to the above shortcode.

Ow, i did not read very well i'm afraid.
With my solution extension 147 will never ring unless you create a coverage button on 147 for ext 174 and set for 174 the divert on no answer option to the shortcode.

What if you just deleted the old user, and created a short code of the old extension number, and had the new extension number as the target?

Thanks you all for your prompt response. Client will upgrade to VM Pro next month.
