Situation: I have a help desk in Building "A" with a G3 PBX, The IT group moved to another building temporarly using only POTS lines from the local bell (not connected at all to the PBX). We now have help desk staff at the Building "A" and at the new IT facility. The Help Desk hotline is a did which is bridged on 4 phones in bldg "A" then covers to voice mail. I want to be able to get calls over to the staff at the new building as well and still retain coverage to voice mail. I tried using coverage remote option but it does not pull the call back into voice mail if not answered in the remote location. Any suggestions?

The ONLY solution that comes to mind would be the EC500 solution that Avaya has, but that would cost a pretty penny. Once a call goes off net, I do not believe there is any way for the switch to follow the call and know that it needs to go back to VM.

The coverage remote feature works fine for me. You might display system-parameters coverage-forwarding. On page 2, make sure that Coverage of Calls Redirected Off-Net Enabled? is stroked to "y". Super-User should be able to change it.

I looked at that and it will not allow me to change. Under customer options, "Coverage of calls redirected off net" is flagged as "N". I can not change that even under super user. This is an option the vendor is telling me that can only be turned on if you buy the Telecommuting feature. Which costs mega money.

Yes we can get the call back in the PBX once routed fron the remote coverage to POTS .This can be done if you have ISDN lines interfaced to the PBX and during the remote coverage path the system picks up these ISDN line to dial out the POTS . It can then jump to other points defined in the coverage path. This works woderfull. I have done it.

Telecommuting is standard since R10, so if you upgrade you'll get it for free....

Three options:

1. Pay for Telecommuter(minumum users).
2. Upgrade to R11 to get the feature.
3. Contact your LEC. They may provide coverage services. If so, you could cover the POTS back to a DID on your G3 that goes directly into VM. Forms a loop and would not be the prefered method but may be cheap and effective for low volume.

Can you get Call-Forward-No Answer from the Telco on those POTS lines at Bldg. B and send them back to a DID number answered by Voice Mail at Building A?
