Is there anyway to block .exe files coming in through emails. We are using exchange 5.5, and watchguard.

Thanks in advance

I meant to say is there anyway to block .exe files on the exchange server

not natively at the server. you can block them with the Outlook 2K client though...

Or obviously through your WatchGuard Firewall...........

Install Norton Antivirus for Exchange on the server, then go to the Symantec knowledge base and search on how to block file types. There are two associated documents you will need to read, but implementing the block is fairly easy (just be sure to follow the instructions carefully). Another option is to install a NAV Gateway. This will give you a much wider range of message blocking options. It's more complicated to set up, but may be worth the effort, depending on your needs.

We have Mcafee Network associates installed, but I dont see any options on blocking files, anyone used this before?

I'm using McAfee GroupShield Exchange. All versions give you the ability to block files by extension, but the latest version allows you to block by subject line as well.

I've been quarantining all .exe, .pif, .scr, .com, etc. for the last three years, and we haven't suffered any email borne viruses since. Very solid product.

As a suggestion to another product .. I use Sibari Antigen for Exchange Server ...

It quarentines, kills, and filters virus', and any type of file that you specify.

It plugs right into Exchange without any problems - easy to manipulate and administrate... and it very simple installation.

There's my 2 cents.

I'll back Eksistenz!! I too use Groupshield 5.0 and love it. Somewhat complicated to implement, but if you set it up right you'll have no problems! I block the same extentions as we have been virus free for quite some time.

Thought I would add my 0.02!
