Hmmm, I was able to plug a 32G SanDisk USB stick in the server, and seemed to be able to mount the drive as "/vol/dev/dsk/c2t0d0/unnamed_rmdisk" using the following procedure:
1. Insert the USB key in one of the USB slots.
2. mkdir /rmdisk
3. /etc/init.d/volmgt stop
4. /etc/init.d/volmgt start
5. mount | grep rmdisk
In response to the mount command, I received:
"/rmdisk/unnamed_rmdisk on /vol/dev/dsk/c2t0d0/unnamed_rmdisk:c read/write/setuid/devices/rstchown/hidden/nofoldcase/noatime/timezone=21600/dev=1741002 on Tue Jan 27 14:00:23 2015"
Then, under the CMS maintenance window, I was able to add the device as "usbstick", with the device as /vol/dev/dsk/c2t0d0.
Finally, when I RUN the backup to the new device, it reports that its estimating space for the backup, then pops up a window showing an estimated backup size of 7129 kbytes. But, when I press return to continue I get an error stating:
"ERROR: Cannot access the volume. Please check the mounted volume and/or the device drive."
Before I inserted the USB stick into the CMS server, I formatted it as FAT32 on my Windows 7 laptop. Is it possible that the drive needs formatted as FAT16 or other?
