Can someone please help me, I have an Avaya 412 that keeps crashing; I get the following Alarms:

What does it mean?

Thanks in advance

Escorthosis,

I'll give it a try, but I would appriciate it if someone could tell me how to upgrade them without crashing this units, because it's the one in the main/head office (last time I tried to upgrade a unit, I discovered that one needs to go from example 1 to 3 then to 6 otherwise it crashes).

Therefore my question is; Can I go from 3.0(44) directly to 4.1 without passing through the other updates.

Thankyou very much.

Paul

PS. But as far as I can see, my unit is exchanging information with the other units; Why?

According to TB090 you could do it in one step.
Look at page 63 on:

If you are using DSv2 expansionmodules they should be upgraded to 3.2.999 (supplied on the 4.1 AdminCD) then to 4.1.

The information exchange is I think about the IP-Lines still being up and connected to the other sites. If these netwerkconnections would drop you can programm an automatic fallback over isdn to a ddi number from the other site.

Your 'voice networking' isn't ticked on your IP-lines is it?
You didn't answer that previous question specificly and is very important!

Escorthosis,

Great, I've downloaded the Bulletin and I will try and do it on Monday. As far as the CD, unfortunately my supplier has never given me any, therefore I'll try and download it from AVAYA's site.

Can you please give me some instruction on how to create an automatic fallback over ISDN.

Thankyou very much for the information.

Paul

Escorthosis,

Yes, both Allow Direct Media Path and Voice Networking are activated.

Paul

Voice Networking ticked means you have an SCN setup, so if you want to keep all those VM Pro's and s/w mixes, untick it quick and create the short codes (if you haven't already).

I agree with Jamie77 (thats why I kept hammering on an answer of your 'voice networking' setup) so untick all those boxes on every IP-line.

For fallback in the Manager program do a search on 'fallback' and it will come up with 'IP Trunk Fallback'. This is supported from level 3.1+.

In your case you could reroute all 43N numbers to the main telephone number of your site containing the 43.. numbers.
Repeat this procedure with different numbers for all sites.
If all sites have multiple DDInumbers you could do a rerouting to individual DDI numbers, but as a fallback backup the mainnumber usually is enough to keep the communication up between the branches.

Hi Jamie77 and Escorthosis, I'm going to upgrade all my unit to 4.1 and I'll untick the Voice Networking, but I still have one question:

If I modified the Short Code to no longer use the Virtual Line, but to use Telecom instead and I haven't unticked the Voice Networking in one of my Virtual lines (But I'm not using it). Does the unit still exchange information?

I honestly hope to risolve the problem tomorrow and if I do it will be thanks to all of you.

Be carefull

You need to be sure that all your ipoffices can handle 4.x

A 401ng (small office) is not a problem
A 412 is not a problem
A406 can be a problem
It need to be a 406v2 and then pcs 8 and hihger
Some 406v2 pcs can also but then it needs ot be the 64MB version instead of the 16 MB version !!!
A 403 is an ipoffice with 16 MB so it is a problem

The 4.x software is bigger then 16 MB and that is why it won't go
So you could do the 412 and small offices
Check the memory of the 406's

If it fit's then go to 4.1.9
The 403 can go to 3.2.61 BUT you need to be sure that yoo do NOT use DT phone's !!!
Then you must use 2.1 or 3.0DT !!!

PLEASE read techbulletin 80

A little text out of it

Note: IP Office 4.0 is not supported on the IP401, IP403, IP406v1 and early IP406v2 systems that only have 16mb of memory. Please refer to the upgrade section of this document for details of how to identify the amount of memory in the IP406v2 system. If your IP406v2 unit does not meet the minimum requirements then there is a procedure in place to enable you to upgrade these units free of charge. This process will be covered under a Product Correction Notice (PCN) that will be issued separately from this Technical Bulletin.

Identifying the amount of memory in the IP406v2
Early 406v2 units only have 16Mb of memory, later units have 64Mb. Although it is possible to check the PCS version of a 406v2 system by looking at the printed label on the unit there are some pre PCS08 systems in the field that do have 64Mb of memory.
The best way to check the memory is to run the System Monitor application, this means it is possible to check this remotely. You will need to make sure that the “Resource Status Print” option on the System tab is enabled to be able to check the memory. When you connect to the system you will see a similar entry in the System Monitor output as shown below:
RES: Fri 3/2/2007 13:43:29 FreeMem=43346748(16) CMMsg=6 (6) Buff=100 520 500 520 1 Links=4194
If you look at the "FreeMem" value you will be able to tell what memory configuration your IP406v2 unit has. In the example above there is 43Mb free, so this is a 64Mb system. If you have a 16Mb system this value will be below 10 Mb.
If you do attempt to upgrade a system that does not meet the minimum requirements the Upgrade Wizard will show the following error.

@tlpeter: He wants to disable SCN and just use IP-Trunking. He will only be upgrading his troublesome IPO412.

@pjj06: Keep using the shortcodes! you'll need those for IP-trunking. Fallback is programmed via ARS/LCR and is only active if the IP-line is not up and running.
Also upgrade only the IPO412 that has the reboot troubles to begin with. For the rest of the site use tlpeters advise!
(internal) names will still show up on the displays if you call another site. BLF updates will stop working when SCN is not enabled.

I thought he wanted to upgrade all the sites :)

tlpeter,

I'm going to try and update all my units or replace the 403's if necessary, but I must resolve the problem that I'm having with our Head Office, because when it crashes I have to get up at 6 am in order to be in the office before the others to restart it. Unfortuately I'm on my own with 2 very young technicians for the whole group including Russia and we supply all the activities from PC, Servers and PBX.

If Escorthosis advice works, that will mean that I can have time to programm my activities, I believe that it would be a good idea to go to each site and perform the updates, in stead of trying to do them in remote.

I really want to say thankyou for all your help and I will give you all feedback on how its going.

I have a question for all of you, what's you opinion about AVAYA 500? Is it really any better than the 4XX?

Paul

I like the ip500

I don't know if it is better but it is easier to install with the licensing it is better to sell for different situations
Also if your company grows you do not need to buy a new one quickly like with the small office

Is it 100% compatible with my units?

It is just a new model and yes you can connect them with your existing unit's

It is about a year old and so it only works from 4.0 and higer

24 hours later and still going ) WOW, the only thing that the others have notice is that they can no longer use Phone Manager to see the other sites.

I hope that it doesn't crash (record is 36 hrs, in the last two weeks).

Ciao

paul

I assume then you took out the Voice Networking.

Hi Jamie77 and the rest of the team,

Yes I did ) and thank you very much for the advice (all of you). 48 hrs later and still going ) WOW, if it remains up until next Monday, I'll be able to plan all my activities, including reading very carefully the Technical Bulletin from AVAYA, before I try updating my units or if necessary replacing the ones with 16MB.

Yet agian I would like to say to all of you thank you very very much for help and support.

Paul
