tlpeter,

I've got the following situation: 412 in Bologna, 412 in SIB, 406 in Imola, 406 in Medicina, 406 in Vicenza, 406 in Parma, 406 in Milano, 403 in Udine and two 406's in Moscow everthing worked fine via VPN until about 3 weeks ago, suddenly two of my unit lost all thier configuration (but I got my backup )) but the main unit in Bologna started to lose some of it's configuration and it goes into crash about 4 to 5 times a day, I replaced the unit with another one but it still crashes ( WHY?

The 412 Unit should be able to handle 360 extentions (is that local) or does it take into consideration the sum of each site even if they have thier own unit and they are connected to each other via VPN

Thanks in advance

Paul

Are they connected with SCN or only with iproutes and dialing internaly goes by shortcode ?
How many user are there in total ? (if SCN)

It sounds like the ipoffice looses it's config because of to many user in a SCN
But it can be a lot more then that
Who does administrate those ipoffice's ?
Is it always done by the same person ?
Is there something change in the last couple of weeks ?

tlpeter

I've Mapped the Network then I created a Virtual Line and then I created a short code, as I use my firewalls (Linux) to create the VPN and Microsoft W2003 Std Ed as a DHCP Server, I disactivated the RIP on all the units.

All the units, firewalls and servers are maneged by me, but not the PC's

Paul

That is why i asked if it is a SCN
Paul take a look at your iplines, voip settings and see if voice networking is checked !!!

Okay I'll try that and get back to you tomorrow, thanks for your help.

This sounds like a classic meshed topology symptom or indeed mutiple VM's in an SCN.

Your IP Lines are they acting as star topology?
IP Routes according to Avaya are allowed to be meshed

Do you have the systems on 3.0?
If so then i advise to upgrade to 4.0 or 4.1 as the 3.0 version have some serious problems with SCN as you may have noticed.

First of all, thank you very much for all the replies.

I've removed some off my connections via VPN, that means that I've redirected them via Telecom (it's not free anymore) and it seems to be working, but I'll wait until Monday before jumping with joy. This means that it could be a SCN, version or memory problem.

SCN seems to be okay. Most of my units have 3.0(44) and 2 of them have 4.0(5), therefore it could be a version problem, I would appriciate it if someone could tell me how to upgrade them without crashing all my units (because last time I tried, I discovered that need to go from example 1 to 3 then to 6 otherwise it crashes).

As far as the memory, my config.cfg file is 91kb

I'm going to try and upgrade the units, so I'll reduce the problems to memory or SCN.

Thank in advance

paul

Paul how many phones are there in total (all sites)
In a SCN there can be a difference in software versions but not that much :)
If there are sites on 4.0 then you should not be lower then 3.2
I you are going to upgrade then read the tech bulletin that belongs to it, this is very very very important
Be sure that you always have a backup

Not Bad

Yet again thanks for your help

You have all these site's in one SCn?
I am not afraid about the number of sites, neither the number of users but the differences of version numbers and all those Voice Managers, that is most likely the problem.

NIHIL NOVI SUB SOLE

I hope some of that was a mistype. Having a 2.0 in an SCN with a 4.0 wishful thinking.

The maximum number of users is 500 so you've exceeded that limit. In some SCN's you might get away with that but not when there are Small Office Editions present (the system has to hold its own config plus a copy of user details of all the users on the other switches, which can push some SOE's into rebooting).

Maximum one central Voicemail Pro.

None of that explains the 412 problem but it will cause you hassle if you try to get Avaya's help.

I hope pjj06 has IP-trunking (and thus calling internally via shortcodes) for SCN.
If you're not: do something about your configuration. You won't get any support from Avaya or a BP.
Can you confirm that 'voice networking' (meaning SCN instead of IP-trunking) is ticked under your IP-lines?

As I already have the VPN between all my sites, I only used the virtual lines (Using the IP Route Form and not the Logical LAN) to speak with our office in Russia (Moscow and Mirax) it all worked fine/perfectly, then I tried to connect all our offices together, but I started to have problems, so I removed all my virtual lines apart from Russia I even replaced the 412 Unit in our Head office, but it still crashes (It has improved, because it crashes ever 36 hours instead of every 2 or 3). What does seem strange is that it crashes when there isn't anyone in the office ( and I have to get in my car and drive 1 hour to get to my office and remove the plug for about 30 sec.

Why do the unit exchange all thier information with each other, in my opinion they should only exchange information when someone calls from another site and just the information necessary for that conversation.

Yet again thanks to all of you for your help

Paul

In order to crate a virtual line I did the following:

1/. Created an IP Route using the IP Route Form
2/. Created a IP LINE (Example 43 - VoIP Gateway 10.0.250.250)
3/. Short Code 43N 43N and Line 43

Thats it.

As far as Voice mail Pro, I have one in each site because at the begining I kept/treated each site as a seperate location.

There you have it. You don't use SCN! (as long as 'voicenetworking' is not ticked)

So you are using ip-trunking with access to all other sites using shortcodes.
There should not be an problem using different sites with different softwarelevels on IP-trunking. Even all your separate VMPro's are allowed in this configuration!

I think you would be better off upgrading your trouble site to 4.1 as the 412 supports this.
It has (hopefully) solved 2 cases of spontanous rebooting IP412's.
