I would like to know what are the commercial/free software available for performing a Hardware/Software inventory audit and generating reports for systems on a network.

Are there any websites which compare/benchmark different Audit software suites?

Thanks.

I am currently trying to get AIDA32 to work not too much success yet but only been at it this morning:

Its free to home users and free to business too provided you register it.

Any help?

It really is superb, its easily distributed, its fairly cheap and it updates a central database every time the user signs in. It logs hardware, how much ram, how much disk space, how many mem slots are being used, whats been added since last login. Software wise it list all installed software and even logs the amount of licences you have and monitors your requirements.

I have just deployed Visual Audit pro by and so far it is everything I wanted. Took about 2 hours to install, config, roll out to clients (can run as a service or run as a logon script) and get my first hardware and software reports off. Thats to just over 100 machines which is pretty damn good - software not me! - by anyones standards and cost about £500.

I tried and tried and tried with Aida32 but couldn't get it to work properly but it is free so can't really complain.

Hope you faired better with AIDA32 than I did ?
