I would like to know what are the commercial/free software available for performing a Hardware/Software inventory audit and generating reports for systems on a network.
Are there any websites which compare/benchmark different Audit software suites?
As the IT Manager of a small firm, Hardware/software auditing was my least loved job. I spent ages searching the internet and finally came upon a piece of software. It really is superb, its easily distributed, its fairly cheap and it updates a central database every time the user signs in. It logs hardware, how much ram, how much disk space, how many mem slots are being used, whats been added since last login. Software wise it list all installed software and even logs the amount of licences you have and monitors your requirements.
It is a really good bit of kit which has saved my suit trouser knees wearing out opening CPU's every couple of months.
and so far it is everything I wanted. Took about 2 hours to install, config, roll out to clients (can run as a service or run as a logon script) and get my first hardware and software reports off. Thats to just over 100 machines which is pretty damn good - software not me! - by anyones standards and cost about £500.
I tried and tried and tried with Aida32 but couldn't get it to work properly but it is free so can't really complain.
