I'm a newbie to this forum, but have read and used many of the helpful tips on here, and they have been very helpful. Now I'm posting to see if anyone has any ideas about my odd problem that is occurring. I have a 302C Attendant Console hooked up to our Definity G3 phone switch which is running Version 9. The console got unplugged/disconnected durring the course of cleaning up one of the wiring closets. The console is running on a 2-wire digital circuit. The wire to the wall jack was punched back down and the single pair was re-crossconnected from our phone room to the white blue/blue white pair on the wire going to the console's wall jack. However, when we plugged the console back in, it doesn't work. I get no lights or dial tone to the console at all. However, doing the self test (holding the up volume, and pos busy button) does successfully do the tone/light test, which seems to tell me that it is at least getting power. If you watch the console, every 5 to 10 minutes, some of the lights will blink briefly, but then it returns to dark. Currently if you call the operator by dialing "0", you get a busy signal.

Any suggestions or ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

~Scott

I got a couple of thoughts.

1. Check the Crossconnect to ensure that the wire is not a half a pair off.
2. Busy out the port the console is connected to and release it.
3. Last resort take the console to the switch room and connect it directly to the port. If it works then move it to the closet. It it works then move it to the desk again. If it still don't work then the station cable is NG.
Stepping it along the circuit path will tell you what went bad.

Hope this helps

1a2 to ip I seen it all

Thanks for the tips Ed. I followed the path the wire took to it's home and found the bad pair that was going to the other building. (How annoying those are.)

It is now more or less working, but it still has a problem that doesn't make any sense to me.

The main console has full functionality, but the display won't work. I don't get any idication of life on it, and I know the display was working before. Also, it has a selection console (for hundreds and tens places) attached, and that doesn't get power at all. Any thoughts?

I have tried releasing the port, busying it out, unassigning it, and reassing it to the attendant.

Thanks!

The console requires 48 volts dc on the brown pair for the display and dss to work. Hope this helps!

I was reading some Avaya tech notes and ran across the note about the 48 volts DC, but am not sure where it would be drawing the power from. It's running on a 2 line digital circuit and doesn't have any kind of external power adaptor with it. Would the phone switch be providing this power somehow on another pair?

Thanks everyone for the assistance.

~Scott

The power may be locally provided thru an inline power adapter or may have been powered thru a closet. The polarity must be correct if fed thru a closet on the CC's( ring on power feed to tip on CC 66/110 and tip on power to ring on CC [ie. reversed])

Thank you to everyone who helped me! I had the power pair going to the closet, but had forgotten to reverse it when I got there when cross conncting it to the console. That tip jogged my mind.

Thank you again to everyone who helped me with my problem.
