I was working on OWA and as I was about to install OWA I was interrupted and did not see that the checkbox for exchange was unchecked. I stepped away to give this person a hand and when I returned the setup was running and removing exchange. I cancelled but it didn't help. Can I run setup and restore my exchange server as it was previous to this happening?

You SHOULD be able to do it. Let's hope you had a decent backup and plenty of documentation.

Run the installer again. Make sure you put Exchange back on this time. Uncheck any options you don't need (like ccmail connector, mail connector etc). Choose the right org, site and server names otherwise you are stuck.

Then service pack both NT and Exchange to the same versions as previously.

Depending on whether the directory structure stayed or not, you may be able to just restore from tape. If you've lost everything including the directory but have a backup of that and the restore let's you do it, you can then restore the database.

Let us know your progress.

I restored the server but I am not able to get the public folders and such. I get this error message
ds e communication problem. Can someone please help me ASAP!!!

Our back up was not setup to back up our log files and because of it we can not do a full restore. Have any of you ever had a situation like thsi and if so? What did you do to fix it? Is there any utility that you know of that will fix this for me?

If you don't have log files, you just don't have them anymore. Exchange can operate, albeit not as cleanly, without the log files. It will create new ones as mail comes in.

The absolutely essential files are dir.edb, pub.edb and priv.edb. You can actually get exchange up and running with just these files.

mailcfg.exe app. error
The instruction at 0x00403e7d reference to memory at 0x00000000.

Has anyone seen this message and how do I fix it? Thank you!
