The problem we are having is that we our vendor fred.user@thedomain.com e-mails Susan (user on my server) directly it works fine. When fred sends an e-mail to the user distribution list it fails with the message below. Any ideas why this could happen. Exchange 2000 sp3 in an active directory environment.

Do other users on the distribution list get the message? The list might be restricted so that only certain users can send to it. Check on the group's "Exchange General" tab in "Active Directory Users & Computers"

Only the user susan is being kicked out of the Distrbution List

" When fred sends an e-mail to the user distribution list it fails with the message below"

A user distribution list is a client side feature. They are static; the addresses are looked up at time of creation and never updated. If Susan's mailbox was exmerged or moved or she had a name change, etc.. then sending to the user dl would fail for her account only. Have fred remove susan's name fron the user dl and then add it back. When adding it back, ensure that Susan's name is selected from the GAL, not contacts [OAB or PAB]... same problem.
