The agents in our call center use Callmaster V phones, which allows a Plantronics headset to be plugged directly into the phone without an adapter box. Other non-agents all have the 6416D+M phones and if they need a headset I put a Plantronics interface and amplifier box on them. For the most part, this all works just fine.

The exceptions are that we have a few agents that need a bit more receive volume boost than the Callmaster V puts out, so I've been looking for an inline amplifier to add to the headset. The company where I get our headsets sent me something called a Walker W10 Amp to try out. It's a receive inline amplifier that plugs into the phone and the headsets plug into it. It doesn’t work on the Callmaster V phones though. You can hear, but the calling party can’t hear you talk and the volume control doesn’t do anything. If I put it on a 6416D+M phone, it works fine, both parties can hear and the volume control works. I don’t know what would be different, but something in the connectors or wiring is different between the two types of phones.

What I am trying to find out is if there are any other options for digital phones that are used on a Definity G3r and G3si ver 9.05, that will take a headset without the converter box that has more volume control? I know there are a lot of different types of Avaya phones available, but hopefully someone has gone through this and found a solution for people that need headsets with a higher receive volume output. Or is there a different brand of headset than the Plantronics that will work with the Avaya digital phones that might be better? I’ve tried a couple of different brands but they all seem to be the same out of the box.

Any suggestions or recommendations?

Thanks

Mike

We had a similar situation with agents using the Callmaster V. The volume just was not high enough for some of the users. We opted to go with the Plantronics M12 amplifier and Plantronics 40287-06 adapter cable. The M12 works just fine on other sets (such as the 6400 or 8400) series phones without the adapter cable. But when using the M12 with the Callmaster V, the volume still was not what the users needed. The key is the adapter cable (sells for around $12). I am not exactly sure what kind of wiring tweaks take place inside the adapter, but it made a huge difference. The only downside is that you have to deal with an external box on the desk (the m12).
