Dear all,

Normally:
if you press the shift key after you marked an item/object (i.e. an email in Outlook, a file in Explorer, a word in MS Word) and click on another item/object, all of the once in between will be marked as well.

Problem:
is that sometimes the same happens without the shift key being pressed at all and the only way to resolve it is a log off.

Anyone ever seen that? Anyone knows by waht that is caused? Have it happen on Dell Optiplex Gx260/270 with dell/non-dell keyboards. Removing the keyboard does not help, pressing shift, releaseing shift etc.

Thanks
Sebastian

I've seen where a keyboard key gets stuck, and if you hit it repeatedly it unsticks it. Even if it's not *physically* stuck, the OS thinks it's on. Next time it happens, try hitting the shift key a few times, then try what you were doing again and see if that fixes it. It drives me crazy because sometimes the system thinks I'm holding down the Windows key and then when I hit an apostrophe (') it brings up a toolbar in Firefox that I don't need or want.

i have seen something similar to that, when i accidently set sticky keys, which is an option under the accessibility options, i don't know how i set it, but i had to go into control panal and then to the accessibility options to change it. not sure it that it is the exact problem you are having, but it would be something to check. sorry couldn't be much more help.

If you tap the shift key 5 times quickly it should bring up the sticky keys dialog box. This feature allows you to set it so the first press of the shift key make it like your holding the shift key. Do a quick shearch in the Help for "Sticky Keys"

Dear all,

even if i wasnt able to replicate it yet I am also convinced that sticky keys is the right answer. Next time a user is having the issue i'll try it out and post the result.

Many thanks and at all a nice weekend,
Sebastian
