Adding a .bmp to an outlook signature

Does anyone know how to do this? I tried to fo this from tools->options->Mail Format->Signature Picker, and I cannot paste a bitmap into here. I tried "Advanced Edit" which opend MS word, and I pasted the .bmp file into there, but It didn't save the .bmp into the signature.

Any insight on this is greatly appreciated.

I have Outlook Express and you have to use either a text or html file for signatures. The same is probably true for Outlook. Look in Outlook's help files under signature and see what it says there.

Ok, so I saved my .bmp as .html, but I still cannot copy it into my signature.

Here's a dumb question sorry. Why do you want to use .bmp? Those files are HUGE and will probably irritate everyone you send your signature to. Have you just tried saving the picture as a jpeg and inserting it? Make sure you are using HTML format. Here are the steps you take.

Open Outlook, Tools, Options, Mail Format, Select HTML, Click Signature Picker, Choose a name, Next, Right click in blank area, Insert Image, Browse to file. -Brad

Brad,

Lets not get distracted about what kind of file I want to use. That is not the issue.

I am selecting Tools->Options->Mail Format->Signature Picker-> Edit and then trying to insert a file. I see no option anywhere to pick HTNL format, or any other format.

Remember, I am trying to create a signature not for just one email - I can do that already - but an automatic signature on all outgoing emails. I have already created this outgoing signature, I just cannot get a .bmp, a .jpg, a .html, or any other type of picture in the signature - I am limited to text.

If you read my post more carefully you would see that there is no HTML option once you are in the edit portion of Signature picker. Again the steps are:
Open Outlook, Tools, Options, Mail Format, Select HTML Under MESSAGE FORMAT Choose a format for outgoing mail and change advanced settings. <--- Below this you will see Plain Text, Microsoft Outlook Rich Text, and HTML. By going through the steps I suggested you will find that it does not select your signature for just 1 email but you can set your signature up everytime you create a new mail. You CANNOT put a picture in your signature by just using Plain Text. There is no way to accomplish this. You MUST use HTML. That is why you are having problems. -Brad

BradSQLGuy is correct. You need to be using HTML format in your e-mails.

If you go to Tools > Options > Mail Format, select HTML as the format and then go down to Signature Picker. You can now select your signature and click Edit or New to create a new one. Right click in the edit box and select Insert Image.

If you are not using HTML as the message format then the Insert Image option will not be available.

I tested this and you don't have to use the HTML editor (although it is the better choice for many reasons). I set this up using RTF as well. When in the Advanced editor I just placed the cursor where I wanted the image and then did a CTRL+V to paste the image (already in the clipboard before I started the editor) and then saved the image. You don't see the image in the signature picker which is understandable but it appears when I do a new message.

The noticeable drawback to this method is that all your messages will be received with an attachment icon because it considers the image as an attachment. Also becuase it is done in RTF some mail readers (non-Outlook)may get the image as a separate attachment file rather than how you designed it to appear. joegz

THis one works in Outlook 97-98. I have not tried it on 2000 or XP. Open outlook - go to tools - click on use word as e-mail editor. open the BMP or JPG file with any graphic program. Select the image and Ctrl-C or copy the image.Then go back to outlook and create a new message. Type in your closing remarks and paste the image wherever you want. Then select all(closing remarks, image...), go to tools and click auto signature. You should be up and running.

Signatures are by definition html and will only work for messages formatted as html. But your email program is integrated with your browser to display html formatted messages and .bmp files are not supported images in most browsers (without addins - and the addins don't carry over to the email reader even if you have them). Image files in .jpg or .gif are supported by all browsers and can be used. So you do have to pay attention to the kind of file you use - convert the .bmp to .jpg or .gif and you should be able to insert it in the signature with the advanced signature editor. And if recipients can receive html formatted email, they will see it as part of the signature (not an attachment).
