AFAIK, excel doesn't recognise HEX - you would need a formula to convert each individual HEX value to a numeric value

Scratch that comment - if you install the Analysis Toolpak, there is a function called HEX2DEC which you should be able to apply to your HEX values. This will convert them to numbers which you can then sum up
