We have a windows 2003 server with exchange 2003 that we've just migrated from another server running win 2000 and exchange 5.5

An employee working on removing the exhange 5.5 server from our exchange 2003 organization had accidentally uninstalled the Exchange 5.5 server before properly deleting it from Active Directory. (running exchange administrator and selecting the server and pressing delete) Everything seems to work fine but obviously the server still shows up on the system manager of our 2003 server. It still shows that there is replication to that server etc.

How can i manually delete it without running the exchange administrator?? (since now 5.5 is uninstalled i can't run the administrator) Is there a way to run it from the 2003 server?

Any help would be greatly appreciated here!

Thanks,
Chris

If you figure this out, let me know as we have the same situation.

Since there is no way to "let you know", you should keep checking back with this thread.

OKAY figured it out! DUH!

Okay, since the only way to delete the exchange 5.5 server from the organization is through the exchange 5.5 administrator, we need to get the Administrator on a Exchange 2003 server, but where? What I didn't know before, and what Microsoft wasn't helpful for telling me was that the Exchange 5.5 Administrator can be installed from the Exchange 2003 setup disk. (I assumed before I posted earlier that the previous installer of Exchange 2003 on our system had installed all the tools, apparently not)

So use the setup disk, go to setup\i386\setup.exe

and select change for Microsoft Exchange.. and then select to install the Exchange 5.5 Administrator located at the bottom.

Open th Administrator and connect to your Exchange 2003 computer. From here on, it reads like the Microsoft Tech article. Just go to configuration, open up the servers, and click on the 5.5 server and hit delete. Confirm the delete and violah! The exchange 5.5 server is no longer listed and all other previous connectors that relied on it are disapeared. Hope this helped.

I'm just mad that I spent so long figuring out how to get it out. I was about to do some weird mailbox recovery and start Exchange 2003 fresh. lol.
