I,m trying to access a 8mm tape containing a binary file using open then read, the tape accesses, but read alway returns 0 records. I'm running on a Sun Sparc2 under solaris OS. Can any one help?
Thanks
Frankie

can you read the tape using tar or dd? [sig]<p>Mike<br><a href=mailto:michael.j.lacey@ntlworld.com>michael.j.lacey@ntlworld.com</a><br><a href= Cargill's Corporate Web Site</a><br>Making mistakes, so you don't have to. &lt;grin&gt;[/sig]

I can read the tape with dd. I can also read the file created by dd using the same PERL program using the insert and read instructions. Processing the file yeilds the expected results, i.e. I know the data format record size etc. But if I try reading the tape directly no records are found.

Thanks for the reply
Frankie.

Hi Frankie,

Can you post a short bit of code that demonstrates your problem? [sig]<p>Mike<br><a href=mailto:michael.j.lacey@ntlworld.com>michael.j.lacey@ntlworld.com</a><br><a href= Cargill's Corporate Web Site</a><br>Making mistakes, so you don't have to. &lt;grin&gt;[/sig]
