Hello All,
I am in the process of reviewing a quote to buy a new Avaya IPO IP500 (replacing a Partner ACS 509)

The question is this, what should I also consider NOW (because the plan is to add an additional 12-14 phone in the future.
These phones will be installed in another building that about 1/2 mile away.

Is there some kind of remote card that'll be needed.
Do I have to buy an additional control unit to support these additional user.

Any and ALL information appreciated.

Easy, you need IP phones and a good link to the other location.
Without considering other bandwidth needs than the phones, 1Mbit syncron should cover it.
No need for extra unit or card on the other location, just the phones and a suitable poe switch. For fax, get a SIP-analog adaptor.

IP 9608 are good and reliable phones, most bang for the buck IMO.

You may want to look in to a dark fiber option and let the satelite office piggy back on Main office's internet connection. Saves you a lot of HW and maint cost for VPN, routers and internet access. (At least this is how I prefer it done).

Kind regards

Gunnar

Don't forget about calling 911. If these are two seperate addresses, you will need to find a solution for this.

I suggest either an IPO500v2 at each site, then SCN them to each other OR get an ATA and orders a POTS line for the remote location. Then dial 911 through this trunk instead of your normal trunks.

Also, if you are on POTS lines today, upgrade to SIP or a PRI during the cutover, especially if you plan on more phones in the future.

You can't configure alternative originator address in the New World??
Has been around for 20+ years, this side of the pond.

Kind regards

Gunnar

@Gunnaro -- you can depending on the provider. Obviously the technology is there but the question is does the provider support it and at what cost?

I don't know, it's a free service here.

But if you chose SIP Trunk, you're home free.
Buy a new range of DDI for the new office, with corresponding addres, problem solved.

SIP trunk is a very good service if delivered by someone who knows how to do it.

Kind regards

I really do not understand that 911 is such a problem.
These days a number is not bonded to a location.
We even have numbers that are made for that.
What if you call 911 from your cellphone?

BAZINGA!

I'm not insane, my mother had me tested!

911 from mobile routes based on the ID of the cell tower connected to.

For tricky configs, I just ask the authorities for the real number to the local emergency call center and program the users accordingly.

Maybe some of the US/CA guys should write a 911 FAQ? By the looks of it, this is not as straight forward as in Europe [smile]

Kind regards

Gunnar

9.1 you can now configure zones based on subnet's to use certain ARS tables.
In the US you would need to notify the PSAP what DID you are sending them for a certain location.

and it's not free unless you need healthcare with it and then its a free for all !!!

It's only dialtone!!!

Three things.
1. Purchase from an active Avaya Business Partner. (Not e-Bay or gray market)
2. You will need as a minimum the Essential Edition License in order to support remote IP phones.
3. Highly recommend using Site to Site VPN to support remote phones, or put the phones in VPN mode. Stay away from H.323.
