Hiya Guys

I have a customer who as got a 9641g handset that he wants to use on his IPO500 v9.0 system. I have tried to get it working on our dem kit but the menus are slightly different and it seems to want to connect to a SIP server, even though I have changed it to H323 in the SIG menu. Its probably come from a AURA so wrong software for a IPO. So my question is is it easy to change the software so it will work on a IPO or am I just wasting my time.
Thanks for any help you can give.

You MUST use the H.323 software, SIP is not supported for Avaya phones on IP Office.
If the phone boots it will need a http server, most often the IP Office acts as such.
Then while booting the phone will do a http request for the "96x1Hupgrade.txt" file.
In this file the necessery binaries are declared for the phone and it will load them.

So you need to set ip addresses in the phone to connect to the http server(IP Office) and load the neceserry files.
Open a browser on your PC and type " address IPO>/96x1Hupgrade.txt"
It should display the contents of the "96x1Hupgrade.txt" file.
If not then the IPO is not set as the file server, correct that and start over again.
If the phone finds the correct file it will show "200 <ip address IPO> etc. and the upgrade process will start, do not unplug or remove power during the upgade process. Just wait and be patient, it may take some time to complete, once done it will connect to IPO and shows "Enter extn :"

Thanks Guys
I have cleared all the settings and it does seem to try to get the file. other type phones always seem to get there software OK so I will check the file. I wont get into the office again until next week so I will let you know how I get on.

I tried again today without any luck. I can browse to the file no problem and the file server is the correct address. It shows on the screen that its looking for the file at the correct address but after a couple of minuets go's to a screen saying Empty SIP Proxy server List. If I connect a 9620 it upgrades OK and works. If I do a mute CRAFT I can change settings the only thing I could think could have an effect on it, is a heading called Group, when I go into this the setting is 0. Any ideas?

Rename the upgrade for.
The phone wants the 96x1Supgrade.txt while the H323 is 96xqHupgrade.txt.
So rename it and it will change.

I'm not insane, my mother had me tested!

The 9620 and 9641 use completely different software so having the former work does not mean that the latter will. Are you sure that you have the 9641 software on your IP Office (latest version is 6.6115)?

Once you have the correct files on your IP Office:
- change the phone to SIG = H.323
- change the HTTP IP address to point to your file server
- reboot the phone

Gwebster, changing the SIG doesn't work on the IPO as it doesn't have the SIP firmware available.
It does need that so the only way is to rename the H.323 upgrade filename so that the phone is thinking is pulls the SIP file.
I have been there and done that.

I have the 96x1Hupgrade on the SD card do I change the name of this? cant see 96x1Supgrade.txt or 96xqHupgrade.txt.

As tlpeter said...
Download 96x1Hupgrade.txt rename it to 96x1Supgrade.txt and upload the file again.

Change SIG to H323 and a phone loaded with SIP software will load the 96x1Hupgrade.txt file instead of the 96x1Supgrade.txt file.

gwebster, no it won't.
Seriously, i tried this a dozen times.
Once it is loaded with SIP it will not do that on an IPO or i am really doing something wrong.
So if you know how it works than be more specific as just changing the SIG only will not work.

I see now if I set SIG to H323 it tries to get 96x1Hupgrade.txt file if its SIP its 96x1Supgrade.txt file. Still wont pick them up off the system or if I put the files in Manager and use that. You dont think the Group setting has anything to do with it thats set to 0.

If it tries to pull the H file than for you the SIG setting actually works.
Are you sure you have a running http server? try using a browser to see if you can open the file.
