Has anyone heard of this handset problem?

6416 D+ sets on IPO 406V2 running 5.0.24

Lift handset - get dead air - to either dial out or answer a call. Speakerphone Mode works fine - for both. Program a Headset Toggle button. If you press Headset Toggle - you can answer an incomming call and make a call using the handset. But you have to do it EVERY time.

It appears that the phones are somehow pre-set to "headset" mode. I figured programming a "Headset Toggle" button would allow me to disable headset mode - but it is only per call.

Anyone run into this or have a solution to try?

Probably because they have plugged the handset cord into the headset port :)

Hmmm...now that would be interesting! I never would have thought to check - but anything is possible.

Also check in User short codes and see if there are weird code programmed for that user.. ( Something that may start with (DCP).

the 6416 has no headset port, but maybe the hookswitch is defective because all the headset toggle does is to emulate what the hookswitch should do
I am lucky I have one sitting here and could peek at it :)

This customer has about 12 phones - all 6416D+ - and they all act the same. The system was defaulted with only the three a,b,c appearance buttons. I added the "headset toggle" button to see if somehow headset mode had been set by default in the phones - although I see no option for doing that. This is getting weirder...and weirder. Someone told me there was a problem with a particular release of R5 that affected 6416 phones - but I have not been able to verify that.

I did not check User short-codes - but given the system was defaulted - there should not be any. I will check and get back to you.

What does sysmon say for the extension when you lift the handset?

amriddle01 - you were 100% correct. The phones did have a "headset" jack - and that is where the customer had his handsets connected!

This is weird, I have a 6416D+ here and it has no headset jack.
You must have a newer version than I do because I just checked and mine is a 1998 serial number. Good job Andy

Seen it myself on 5410's it's one you don't forget once you know the symptoms, basically exactly as you described :)

Westi is right, I have two 6416D+ here and they have no headset jack, just line, XM24, and handset. One is Avaya serialized set, other is Lucent ( older ).
I think the 6416D+M had the extra headset jack, not sure, I havent seen one in a while.
