5621 CCC agents phone just automatically log out spontaneously

Hello, I've been fighting this issue for awhile and have tried every imaginable thing to fix it which is why I'm posting it here.

IP500 with VMPRO on release 4.2.23 and CCC 5.0.61. All agents are 5621 users.

The agents phones will logout spontaneously and goto nouser several times a day, and in some cases won't stay logged in at all, they simply log out as soon as they are logged in. They simply auto-log themselves out and sometimes back in as a completely different hot-desk user and isn't limited to a few phones but all 12-15 agents exhibit this issue. Sometimes they work fine, but then the problem comes back, and soon all 12-15 phones are doing it. For example, after rebuilding the config, they ran fine for 3 days straight, then started freaking out again. I even offlined my newly rebuild config again, but they still did it, which makes me think it's not a corrupt config.

I have turned off CCC server, rebooted the IP500, rebuilt the entire config from scratch, and made sure all corresponding firmware is correct on phones/processor/etc.. I've replaced the processor, the lan cables and even the switch the phones are plugged into, tried different 5621 phones. I tried switching to LAN2 on the IP500, same issue. btw the phones reside on a separate VLAN, and have monitored the network for packet loss or any errors, which they are none. I've done a CLEAR and RESET command on all 5621 phones.


I have tried making them regular hot desk users (unchecked force log in) and had the same issue. If I deleted the login code, thereby making the phone hardcoded to the extn number, they work fine, but obviously CCC doesn't report on the agents then.

There are no duplicate numbers, names, spaces, weird characters, etc... I've never seen this issue before and have other CCC customers using the same phones and 4.2 release and they have not had this specific issue.

Anyone run into an issue with hot desking/login/logout spontaneously happening? btw, there are no phone managers, IP softphones, etc... I can't really blame CCC, because this happens when the CCC server is shutdown.

I'm going to move them to Release Q1 2011 5.0.26 along with CCC 5.0.71 and see if that helps. I'm not very confident about it, since they ran fine on 4.2 for years until the last few weeks. I thought a new config from scratch would surely fix it, but that isn't the issue either. The distributor had me check the log in settings (which are defaulted anyways when you create a new user.)

I have all huntgroups set "Agents Status on No-Amswer Applies to"= None

Also there is "no login idle period" defined (it's blank) for the Users and the "Status on No-Answer" is set to Logged on (no change).

Btw, they have no other issues other than this spontaneous login/logout issue. Voice calls are clear, no dropped calls, PRI looks great, queuing works correctly, etc...

Any suggestions or ideas what could make these phones do this?
 
Sounds like Delta server messing stuff up, you tried re installing that? :)

I simply shut it off, to eliminate that as a possibility. With Delta Server disabled, the phones still exhibit the spontaneous login/logout issue.
 
You have tried everything I would have tried, it's a real head scratcher, you need to make a monitor trace of when it happens, that should reveal what happens :)

yeah I had the system completely idle at night, all agents logged off, and could log in one user, and it would log back out immediately. i did a monitor trace, but I can't really understand it, i could see me log in, and then see NoUser immediately log in again. I'll grab traces if it happens after the update to 5.0.26.
 
Do you have a user profile for the underlying IP Station? IIRC really odd things happen if you try to hotdesk / agent login using IP stations that don't have a user attached to them i.e. from "No User".

What I've had to do in the past is create an IP station with a user with OCB, 1 call appearance and a login button.

Heya mattKnight, my IP base extn's are the same as the agents actual extn number. So John Doe's Extn is 6201, the base IP extn number for the IP phone at his desk is 6201. These agents don't move around and all the base extn #'s match their user extn #'s. There are no duplicates. Also what does OCB stand for?
 
right... just not to update on my acronyms I guess. They've been updated to Release 5.0.26 last night, and they haven't called yet, so we'll see if it holds.

If not, I guess I could change all the base Extn's of the IP phones to some generic 7000 number range, and they login over the top of that. Are you saying that you also created generic users matched to the generic base extn's of the IP phones? I'm willing to try anything at this point.

IP stations 7000->7999
Dummy Users 7000->7999

Agents 2000->2999

Like I say wierd things happened... I don't remember it being a bug as such, but highly recommended configuration.

yeah, I've read all the CQ's... and didn't find anything specific, and I have never had this issue where all the hotdesk users phones spazz out and start logging in and out and show up on different phones etc... Really weird. Thanks for the input, time will tell. I'm slowly running out of options/attempted fixes,(if it keeps happening,) with the final option being... update to R8 with Xima. Money the customer I'm sure doesn't want to spend.
 
Did you check the option that says "Status on No-Answer: Logged Off"? User>Telephony>Supervisor Settings.

If that is what it says then any time they don't answer a call they get logged off.

Did some one enter a logout time?
This is in seconds.
Example, when a time of 3600 is entered then after 3600 second of in activity then the user will be logged out.

This problem cropped up again. So the update to 5.0.26 didn't change anything.

to kholladay and tlpeter, see my original post, those settings have been checked and verified already. There is no idle time period and the "Status on No-Answer" is set to Logged On (no change)

I've created dummy users for the base extn of the IP phones 6800-6899

The actual users are 6200-6299.

I have a monitor trace (all options checked) of when it happens to a user. It's extn 6230 rharris logging over the base IP extn of 6830. See trace below, there are a couple calls in queue btw, but you'll see him log in and then it immediately logs him out by itself.

I do have a few shortcodes without a * in front. They are dial codes to ars, 8N and 9N, also a #xxxx for voicemail transfers. Just so you know, the above trace is with all other phones logged out, the phone I logged in myself, it immediately logged out by itself with me watching it. The system was completely idle except for 2 inbound calls in queue.

What I'm saying is; not a single other phone was logged in, nobody was touching any phones, and with 2 calls in queue, I logged one phone in, and it magically logged itself out after 1 second. This is the issue I'm fighting with this system, is that the phones just logged themselves out. Nothing fixed it going from 4.2 to 5.0 so I'm thinking it has to be something networking wise that freaks these phones out. It isn't limited to "one" IP phone. I've suggested putting in digital phones for the agents. Even upgrading the system to 8.0 with CCR, and I still think these IP phones would do this. They are just acting really weird when it comes to pushing their login buttons.

Today, a new weird issue happened. A supervisor would hit her night service button for the agent group, to put the group back in service. It would magically go back into Night service all by itself after 1 second. She would try again, but every time she hit the night service button, it would simply re-enage back to nights. Rebooting her phone didn't not fix it, trying from another supervisors phone yielded the same result...

When I did a trace, I could see Supervisor "A" push the button for night service which would clear the night service for the agent group, and then 1 second later I would see another supervisors phone, Supervisor "b" (with the same night service button) push it again, essentially putting the group back into night service. Except Supervisor B was not at her desk, I was, and I certainly wasn't hitting it again!!!! It was like the phone was hitting the button by itself which doesn't make any sense. I disconnected the phone (supervisor's B phone), and then Supervisor A was able to put the groups in service just fine. I replaced the supervisors B phone with a different 5621 and so far, the replacement phone hasn't magically pushed the night service button by itself.

A) How is this even possible?
B) Because these are IP phones, even though in a seperate VLAN, could the cisco switches be messing with the signaling of the Avaya IP phones causing all kinds of weird things?

To me as a tech, when the issue is happening, rebooting the entire system doesn't fix it, and when the agents try to log in, it just logs them back out immediately. Next, with seeing the new traces of the night service button issue, I'm thinking that the signaling (via the agents hitting a code or button on their IP phone)is getting messed with, duplicated, corrupted or whatever you want to call it and causing these issues.

C) to any of you who have implemented avaya IP phones and cisco switches, are there any settings you make sure to disable/enable?

D) has anyone seen anything like this before?

I think you need an old priest a young priest and a bottle of holy water, you have a system that is possessed :)

Seriously though I have absolutely no clue what could cause that, possibly a network issue could cause a single button press appear as two but not a second press from a different handset. I say you stick some digital sets in and see what goes on then, could narrow it down......maybe :)
