5610 to Remote Office

I have a IP412 unit with the following:

IP412 - PRI card - 4 Analog Card - VCM 30
2 - 30 Station Digital
1 - 16 Digital Sta
1 - 16 Analog Line


What we are trying to do is...

Use the existing site, SITE1 with IP412 and vpn to SITE2 the setup I was thinking is:

SITE1 > Router > T1 >
Cable/DSL (unsure yet) > Router > SITE2 > PCs/5610(s)

will this work and if so what needs to be programmed on the IP412 unit?

Remote Extensions?
5610 Programmed for IP412 IP address?

You need a IP route in the 412 to the VPN router and in the phones you need a Phone IP Address, Phone Subnetmask, Router IP Address, TFTP Server IP Address and a CallServer IP Address which is the IP Address of the IP Office.
Some things may be needed additional in IP Office routing table if there is already a default route.
Example :
In IP Office routing table you have a route:
0.0.0.0 MASK 0.0.0.0 Gateway 192.168.42.254 LAN1 then this is a default route
If the other end of the VPN use 192.168.30.x and locally you have 192.168.42.0 then add a route like this
192.168.30.0 MASK 255.255.255.0 Gateway 192.168.42.253 LAN1 which is the IP Address of the VPN router.
 
you will need to create an ip route to that subnet in the ip routes tab.

you can statically address the phone, giving it an address on the local network, giving it the ipo address as the call server, giving it the local router ip address, and the voicemail pro pc as the file server.

if you have auto create extn and auto create user on under the gatekeeper tag under system you can enter in an extension when the phone comes up and it will automatically create the ext and user in manager.
 
So you want your remote site to be able to make calls through your main sites IP412?

If so yes its possible, like you said, you need a tunnel that allows traffic back and forth. Then configure DHCP IPOFfice options at the remote site to point the phone to the main sites IP Office. Nothing different needs to be configured on the IP412.

DHCP options: MCIPADD=xx.xx.xx.xx;MCPORT=1719
etc..
 
Great ! so i will verify the vpn tunnel and set the settings in the ip manager software under the system tab i assume correct?

I dont have the system in front of me so i am just guessing.

Do i need any other equipment besides the phones at the remote site?
SITE2

Do you really need the IP route? We had 2 IP routes configured, 1 to our backbone subnet and 1 to our remote TAC office. No routes to our home offices, and our phones work without fail across the board.


And I just deleted the route to our remote TAC office and the phones still work without fail.
 
drew it depends on the gateways. sometimes you may need them and others you may not. multiple routers and you usually needs IP routes/

Thats what I thought. In his situation he shouldn't need it if the tunnel is setup correctly and the phones on the remote site are as well.

 
So i will just verify the SITE2 to SITE1 ping configs and LAN access and check the phones. Great ! Thank you i will report back once configured...hopefully it will work without a hitch.

He probably does not need them but if you have your normal gateway and then another device for the VPn connection it is better to have the route. it will get the traffic to the VPN instead of sending it to the gateway and having the gateway route to the VPN device. if the Gateway and the VPn device are the same then he should be ok with just the default route in the IPO.
