every time one of our 1608 ip phones boots up and checks for the language file it crashes ip office and all users are disconnected from their customers . has anyone experience this ?

No. But phone boot files are relatively straightforward and you could test with IIS, tomcat, some other HTTP server.
In DHCP option 242, there will be MCIPADD=x.x.x.x - that's to connect to IPO, and there will also be HTTPSRVR=y.y.y.y. The phone first connects to to get firmware information - something with "upgrade" in the filename. Then it gets 46xxsettings.txt - that has a bunch of settings, and if your phones point to another language, that 46xxsettings will point to mlf_otherlanguage_versionZZZ.xml or something.

All those files are on the IPO SDCard. All those files can be put on another HTTP server. DHCP can point the phones to IP Office for registration, but the other HTTP server to download files and hopefully avoid 1 bad locking tab on an ethernet cable from causing a phone to reboot to causing your IPO to crash.

Maybe your SD card is corrupted - or at least the particular language file on it is bad and a whole reformat of that might help you out.
Are you on an IP500 or a Linux based server edition?

What type of 1600 phone? the old green display or the newer white display?
The newer white display requires 5.0.22 or higher to be supported.

BAZINGA!

I'm not insane, my mother had me tested!

we are on the latest 8. version. we cant go to version 9 because our regular phones are 5410 and are not supported by version 9. the ip phones are the white display. thanks for both of the replies so far. ill see if our tech team can try this.

Who told you that the 54xx are not supported on 9.0?
