No call features when switched to MPLS link

Hrmmm.. I can't imagine the reamapping to another close or connection you would lose just the features. I would have thought it wouldn't have worked at all. On the MPLS connection Are you paying for multiple CoS? Did you define to the carrier how you would mark or they interept your traffic...

loopback plug for testing a T1 circuit

You're both right in a way. If you want true clocking to a ckt then a CO switch or DXC 3/1/0 will be involved. Yes most if not all ckts will go through a DXC however in 3/1 system a true clock is not being applied. You guys are looking at this on 2 different angles as to what clocking is...

    FTP over MPLS T1

Is CoS enabled on that t-1? Is your FTP traffic coming into the MPLS network as basic? Is it possible one of the other classes is being used and starving your FTP? Just a couple of prelim thoughts.

    Voice 101

Im a crusty old voice guys that knows the in and outs of TDM voice signalling ect. I've been tasked with doing so some sessions to teach the data guys the basics. Looking to cover stuff from signalling to call flows. I would normallyu white board this for my audience but I'm guessing I should...

    Ckt vendor unknown?

XHGS is the designation for the 56k. Unless you're in a building with mutiple carriers it would appear Verizon is the last mile provider. That being said if the dmarc is extended sometimes you'll find another ckt is associated with this which could help you hunt down the carrier.

How do you calculate the # of T1 needed for call center?

My rule of thumb i've used over the years. T-1 24 trunk on average get push 150-200k minutes a month. Now call center tend to push this limit based on volume so I tend to go with the 125-150k. If you can ballpark your in/out minutes you can ballpark # of t-1's.

Looking to change the organizations ISP.

8 down 1 up is that guaranteed always bandwidth? Whereas your t-1 will give you the fixed 1.5 all the time not sure what SLA's with cable you get. The only other thing I can think of is when switching is the fact you'll need to number your network with the cable companies ip space and go through...

    IAD2431-1E1T1 PRI w/ NAME Info

Ask what ever carrier if they are passing CNAM. It can be setup not to pass it being some systems don't like to get it.

Stupid Question: B8ZS on an AMI T1

Here's what might happen. Yea you might be able to but if the bit stream runs to many 0's over the connection you're going to start clocking crc's on the line. You could run AMI over a B8ZS line but not the other way around. Depending on the application you could get CSU to convert the AMI on...

    isdn signaling

My opinion is that stick with FAS. NFAS is nice in that you do gain one b channel but if you lose the primary t-1 on NFAS you will lose access to the second PRI. Just make sure that when you order FAS that the carrier builds in the rollover between the two is you want the DID's rolling to all 46...

    ISP Changes - Seeking assistance

You will need to contact whomever hosts your current email mx record and have them update it with your new static once you get it. There may be a lag time for this to update and you could suffer some downtime on accessing your email for a bit.

    Only 1 way communication

Make sure you have routes setup pointing back to the phone. I've seen the before and corrected it by having either the firewall opened up and static routes in the router.

MPLS speed - is 180kbps data transfer normal?

How big is the connections in both sites to the WAN? Are you running CoS and is this transfer running in a class other than best effort? Have you looked at the file transfer application on how its configured? Are the MTU's on the edges been looked at. Kinda of vague in you first staement. It...

    DSL filters?

I just had to tshoot an issue in my house and thought my buttset bit the dust. I also was picking up the dsl on the line post filter. No problems with the house phone though using the same filter. Now i'm going to take my set to test it on a non dsl line to make sure it still works.

Which telco providers would you recommend ?

If you choose to go with a CLEC for voice service make sure you build in some failover capapbilites. I'd pass on XO. Paetec isn't bad at all and they can give you automatic reroute options. For data stick with the tier 1's of the world. The little guys like to claim the networks are just as good...

DSL to T1: What do I need to do for small office?

Here's what you need to ask USLEC. Does your managed solution include managed router? If the answer is yes you're pretty much set. They will hand you off an ethernet cable which you'll plug into your exisistng network and you're on your way.

Telephony from the ground up - help!

IMHO! If occasional call quality isn't a big deal Covad hosted isn't a bad play. If phone service is paramount go get 5 POTS lines with voicemail. You may also want to look and the local cable and phone companies are doing in the IPtel space.

    Replacement router or hub?

Depends. As long as your ADSL modem supports DHCP you'd be fine with a hub. Having a router behind the modem couldn't hurt. Havind a router with a firewall built would add some security to you network.
